Some templates (duoplate, smartblogger, aceforever) give me an Internal Server Error when trying to edit the index.php to configure the template. Other templates do not (etensity, kitephotography). You would need to contact your host to find out what the problem is.

Was your host able to find anything? They usually keep a log of errors that will help pinpoint what is causing the error.
