I know how to write html code for both a text email link and a graphic email link

but when i place the same code into joomla and then go to the front end i on selecting the graphic link and or the text link it opens up my eail client but instead of getting the email address in the To: box i get the following java script

<script language='JavaScript' type='text/javascript'> <!-- var prefix = 'ma' + 'il' + 'to'; var path = 'hr' + 'ef' + '='; var addy11373 = 'rachel.chai' + '@'; addy11373 = addy11373 + 'rcv' + '.' + 'org' + '.' + 'uk'; document.write( '<a ' + path + '\'' + prefix + ':' + addy11373 + '\'>' ); document.write( addy11373 ); document.write( '<\/a>' ); //-->\n </script><script language='JavaScript' type='text/javascript'> <!-- document.write( '<span style=\'display: none;\'>' ); //--> </script>This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it <script language='JavaScript' type='text/javascript'> <!-- document.write( '</' ); document.write( 'span>' ); //--> </script>

why??

I believe Joomla does this by default to protect you from spam bots.  At the bottom of the below script it reads "This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it".  What you could try doing is adding your email address link with the WYSIWYG editor turned off.
