Would it be possible to use paradigm shift with jomsocial?  I notice that people recommend using jomsocial specific templates but I don't really understand why?  This template has the look and feel that I want for the site.

Hello,

Jomsocial will work with Joomla compatible template, including Paradigm Shift. Some templates are just more designed around the component itself and offer more styling than others.
