Hi there,

I've tried to upload my own favicon.ico file onto the root of Design_Control template, but failed.
My joomla says this file format is not supported. Could you please direct me through the process or let me know what might go wrong? Wonder if there is anything I am missing.

Thanks,

Hello,

Most file formats are .ico files, you should have no problems uploading that. You can also just upload it via ftp and overwrite the existing one. Favicons are difficult to update, usually you have to clear your browser cache and restart the browser to see it update.

Favicon files are tiny images (16 x 16 pixels). You need to save an images as an ICO-file. Do not rename an JPG file into an ICO-file. Can you post the full internetaddress of the ICO-file (like http://www.domainname.com/template/favicon.ico). If you enter this address, this image should appear in de top left corner of the page.

Thanks for your quick reply. Since I don't use ftp from my end, does that mean that I'm not able to overwrite the existing Favicon.ico? I've tried looking for your existing one from all root folders in the template but no luck. Sad Is there any specific directory that can guide me to?

Hey,

Thanks for your headsup. I did save it as an .ico file, but may need to twist the dimension a bit smaller I guess.
I'm using this template from a local host on my computer for now, thus, I'm not able to share a link with you at the moment.

Hello,

If you are doing this on localhost you wouldn't need ftp, you would copy and paste the file in the correct location on your local machine. The file is in the template's root folder and it's called favicon.ico

You need to go to the root of your website first. Then browse to the folder template/Design_Control.
There should be a file with the name favicon.ico. If you use a image viewer (like Irfan View), you can view this image (S5 logo). You can replace this file with your own image.

Hey,

As the attached screenshot of the root folder, there is no favicon.ico in there. And I've tried looking through all folders, no luck still. Am I missing anything here?

Hello,

That is a screenshot of your template manager, that will only show editable files. An ico file isn't something that you edit with the template manager. You need to go to the actual folder structure either with ftp, or if you are using localhost just open that folder with your operating system.
