Why, mr Vertex, why?!
I made over 50 websites and now try to use Vertex. Seems te be a quiet nice template.
So first I will try it with the free template Forte, including SiteShaper.
No problem.
Then I have to update Vertex to version 4.1
Here the fail starts.
I seem to go well, but if I log out and log in, I got the error ?Template XML file not found?.
I don?t get this. In the old version of Forte (yes, I made a backup) there is also no xml-file.
In the old folder 'xml' there?s the file Specific.xml. If I copy this to the new folder, there?s no more error, but the site is a total mess, without any layout.

Come on, mr Vertex. don?t be cruel. Give me a normal way to backup a template. And don?t give me failings.

Please, for all starters with Vertex, make an up to date version of your free template+SiteShaper, so  with an up to date version of Joomla and an up to date version of Vertex.

I still wanna try your template.
But not this way.

Hello,

An error about Template XML not being found would not be related to Vertex, unless you've uploaded the patch incorrectly. That error is referring to templateDetails.xml, which is not related to Vertex and not part of the patch. Please be sure you are following the patch instructions exactly as shown here:

http://www.shape5.com/documentation/Vertex-Framework/Joomla-Specific/How-To-Patch-Vertex-In-Joomla-and-Changelog

"In the old folder 'xml' there?s the file Specific.xml. If I copy this to the new folder, there?s no more error, but the site is a total mess, without any layout."

---I don't know what this means. You shouldn't be touching specific.xml it stays in place as is during the upgrade and is no included in the patch.

Thanks Mike.
But a few questions about uploading the patch.
I?m working now local, so ?uploading? is drag and drop. Local with Mamp, latest version, php 7.1.0.

1. There is no order in extraction! All the files and folders are extracted at once. Which order should I use to ?upload??

2. What folders and files should I upload? For example the folder ?xml? with all of its content? Or only the content? So the folder ?language? and the file Vertex.xml ?
MInd you: the patch?s folder does not contain Specific.xml. So, if I upload the folder ?xml? the file Specific.xml is gone.

3. Same question for the folder ?css? in the patch. Upload that folder at once? Or separately the folders bootstrap, core, font-awsome, ionicons and multibox? Of even separately the content of that five folders? (this is the way we did it in the nineties?)

Yes correct it would just be drag and drop

You can just drag all files and drop them into the root of the template folder and overwrite when prompted.

Correct the specific.xml is not contained in the patch as this file is specific to each template and there is no generic version. The specific.xml file won't be deleted when you drag and drop the patch files.

Code:

You just drag all contents of the patch and drop into the root of your template folder where the index.php file is and the templatedetails.xml file is. When prompted to overwrite choose yes.
