Not sure I fully follow but if you change domain names then yes that would affect SEO, you would need to keep the same name so all URLs would still be in the search engines, etc

I changed the company name, because we are growing. I did a redirect right now, so if the old website was www.1.com it redirects to www.2.com which is a completely fresh installation... i also tried the jupgrade, what a waste of time... it was easier to copy and paste each article vs troubleshooting their crazy app.
