I downloaded a site shaper package and extracted it to a file.

Using the Joomla install/uninstall extension, which folder/which file should I upload?

Or, should I not unpack the download?

Thanks.

If you already have a Joomla! site up and running then you don't need the site shaper.

I have Joomla installed, but I don't have a Joomla site up and running.

I need to install a template in order to develop a site. The problem is I can't install the template.

1) It does not install from the download package (no xml setup file found)
2) I unzipped the download, but I still can't install the template.

I may be wrong, but I suspect that I should be able to install the template from the unzipped download IF, using the Joomla install uninstall extension, I select the right file.

So, the question stands: How do I install the template? What file do I select? Is the XML error that I encounter when attempting to install from the unzipped download the real issue?

the site shaper is not a template.  The site shaper has everything you need already installed and ready to go.  Follow these instrustions from a clean site directory and you'll be in business in no time at all. I'm not sure you have to totally clean out your web site directory, but at least you are guaranteed there will be no file conflicts. Start from 0 and follow these instructions: http://www.shape5.com/demo/aluma_photography/content/view/39/87/

I don't use the site shaper in production as I only have a want and need for a template, but I've played with it and they have done a really nice job with it. You should be up and running in a few minutes, just don't make it to complicated.

I've reference the instructions: http://www.shape5.com/demo/aluma_photography/content/view/39/87/

I am still confused.

First, instructions say "the zip file contains 3 files..."   I do not see 3 files. I see 15 folders and various other files none of which are called "site shaper."

well, that was my bad, I forgot that the link I gave you was to the shaper with virtuemart.

Clean out your web directory and upload the single zip file.

Expand the archive and run the installer.

When done it will have your modules, templates and components already installed.

If you already have some work done to your site and just want the template then go back to the download section and grab the template (not site shaper) that you want and install via install/uninstall.

Let me review the steps from the Forever Ace tutorial along with the steps you provided WITH COMMENTS.

Login to your cpanel or your server admin panel.
OK. LOGGED ON TO PHPMYADMIN THROUGH JSAS.

Locate the area where your databases are
OK. I SEE SEVERAL DATABASES: MYSQL, PHPMYADMIN, JOOMLA 15, INFORMATION SCHEMA, ...

Create a new database
OK I CREATED A DATABASE: NEWDB. IT APPEARS ON THE LIST.

Next create a new database user and assign it to this newly created database in the previous step
OK I CREATED A NEW USER FOR NEWDB.

You will then need to extract the site shaper to either a folder on your server or the root directory such as WWW.
OK. EXTRACTED ZIP FILE TO NEW FOLDER "FOREVER" LOCATED IN THE ROOT DIRECTORY C:\Program Files\JSAS\http_root\www

NOTE: if you already have a website in the root of your WWW folder, we suggest creating a new folder and extract the site shaper there.
I HAVE NO WEBSITES IN THE WWW FOLDER. THIS IS MY FIRST WEBSITE EFFORT.

Next, navigate to where you extracted the site shaper via your web browser.
OK. THAT"S THE FOREVER ACE FOLDER: C:\Program Files\JSAS\http_root\www\S5 Forever.

The site shaper splash screen should appear, continue through until you reach the below screenshot:
OOOPS> NO SPLASH SCREEN.

OK. Progress. I got to the splash screen.

I finished the setup, but no site preview.

Did I delete the wrong installation file when I deleted FOREVER?

I need some hand holding until this is done. I hope you don't mind.

Assuming you want joomla to be your "front page", you should extract the install files to the root directory (www). Ny extracting to a subdirectory of www (www/forever) the address would be http://your.domain.com/forever

expand the zip to www (no subdirectory and assuming www is the root web folder)

run the installer

the directory you delete is "installation" when setup is complete

Getting closer...

YOU WROTE:
Assuming you want joomla to be your "front page", you should extract the install files to the root directory (www). Ny extracting to a subdirectory of www (www/forever) the address would be http://your.domain.com/forever

expand the zip to www (no subdirectory and assuming www is the root web folder)

run the installer

the directory you delete is "installation" when setup is complete
.
PLEASE ADVISE:
I extracted files to the root directory folder: www. I noticed, however, that there's both a WWW folder and www folder.   My hunch is www is the right folder, but on the other hand, this hasn't worked yet. So, please advise.

Also: when I complete setup and next delete the "installation" folder I get a 404 broken link error.

It will be a couple of hours before I get back to you as we're having a quick family function in a few minutes.

I think I got it! The page displays.

I deleted installation and then made sure to empty the trash. For whatever reason the page displays.

Now, I have to learn to work with the template.
