menu_image set to -1

I'm trying to optimize my site and have found that "web developer" tools report an image not found for ....stories/-1
After searching for the reason I found in the s5_suckerfish.php ( also in s5_no_moo_menu.php) the sentence:
$menu_image = $menu_params->def('menu_image', -1);
This causes the search for a file called -1 in stories. Is this correct ?
This happens around 40 times in a page ( I guess for any menu item), and I assume this will cause a performance problem as reported by the site checkers.
Any help will be appreciated.
