: Category Blog Layout
: Renee-amanda Heywood January 06, 2011, 01:18:33 PM
Hello,

I would like to know if it the category blog layout can display a certain number of articles (say 10) and when the blog reaches its limit it has an option below to go to the next page which shows another number of articles (10).

Thanks.

Yes you do this via a menu item that you setup as a blog category.  In the parameters of the menu item you can set how many to show

I did that already but there is no option in the category blog layout in the admin backend that does that.

Just checked and there is under "Parameters (Basic)"

its labeled as "intro" and will only work if you have intro text set for each article.

Ok I tried it but it still  shows all the articles in the category on 1 page. If I have 5 articles in that category and I want to show each article on each page of the blog it displays all articles on 1 page. So if that category builds over time to have 100 articles, it will display 100 articles on 1 page. I want after every 5 articles the other articles are pushed to another page in which you can choose page 1, 2, 3 etc to view articles 6 - 10 on page 2 and articles 11 - 15 on page 3 and so on.

Exactly and this is what will happen if you have read mores on the articles.  If you cant get it working just PM login details and let me know what menu link and category you want this enabled on.

Thanks for your assistance, I sorted out the issue finally. I am also having another issue with Internet Explorer displaying the Recent vids module below the content fader but when I use it on firefox it displays properly to the right of the content fader. Is there anything I can do to solve this issue?

If you can post a URL I'll take a look and see if I can spot anything that might throw IE off.

Ok the website is test.sjcpos.edu.tt. Try the link in both IE and FF and see that the recent vids module goes beneath the content fader in IE only.

I also have another issue with the recent vids module. I entered text for each video and everytime the page loads it is shown very briefly underneath each video and then the text disappears.

Another issue with the recent vids module also is that the lytebox effect doesn't work for videos when I link it to other video hosting websites such as youtube, dailymotion etc...

Try removing the margin left and right here, does this help?

.s5_modulemm-white {
    margin-left: 5px;
    margin-right: 5px;
    overflow: hidden;
    padding: 18px 14px 14px;
}
template.css (line 1648)

That still doesn't work. It still shows underneath the content fader in IE.

If you PM me login access to your site I can take a look and solve a lot faster, otherwise its going to be a guess and check until we figure it out.

: Re: Category Blog Layout

I think it could possibly be the width of the recent vids module since we made changes to that awhile ago somewhere within the template.css file. If you can dig up a couple past topics I made.

: Re: Category Blog Layout

I solved the issue. The rightset50 on the topic I posted awhile back was the cause of the problem. I put the rightset50 width down to 48% and that solved the issue in IE and I left the leftset50 to 50%.

Now if you can help me solve these issues:

I also have another issue with the recent vids module. I entered text for each video and every time the page loads it is shown very briefly underneath each video and then the text disappears.

Another issue with the recent vids module also is that the lytebox effect doesn't work for videos when I link it to other video hosting websites such as youtube, dailymotion etc...

The text shows because the multibox Javascript hasn't loaded yet, theres not really anyway around this.

Can you post a URL of where its not working with videos?

: Re: Category Blog Layout

Its the same URL for the website.

test.sjcpos.edu.tt

The text beneath each video doesn't show. I copied all the modules on the frontpage of the website and used it as a front page of another part of the site. Its under Library and the text beneath that same video module shows. However, another problem with that library layout as you can see there is a grey section across the middle of the page.

I see the following is enable on the site, not sure if this could be causing an issue but what happens when you disable this jcemediabox plugin?

/plugins/system/jcemediabox/js/mediaobject.js

I disabled it and it doesn't seemed to have solved the problem.

Can you PM me FTP and joomla login access so I can take a look?

Hello Jonahh,

I don't think I am allowed to give login access to anyone as yet. Sorry about that.

I would also like to find out since I have this topic already opened, can the blog layout for my articles have designs for them such as borders around each article in the blog layout and separators for each article. Maybe something similar to the following site.

www.deadline.com

They have a blog layout with a particular design for each article in the layout.

Do you have a URL on your site with multiple articles in a blog layout?  If so then I should be able to give you some CSS to add top and bottom borders around each article.

: Re: Category Blog Layout
: Renee-amanda Heywood February 04, 2011, 02:33:53 PM
Here is a link to a category of the website with multiple articles.

http://test.sjcpos.edu.tt/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=114&Itemid=264

As you can see the articles are bland with just the white background and only the date makes you differentiate between each article.

: Re: Category Blog Layout
: jonahh February 07, 2011, 12:01:14 PM
Edit the below file and add the borders and this should help:

template.css (line 119)

table.contentpaneopen {
    border-bottom: 1px solid #000000;
    border-top: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 100%;
}

: Re: Category Blog Layout
: Renee-amanda Heywood February 07, 2011, 02:34:24 PM
I entered the bottom and top borders like you specified in the CSS but I also tried adding a left and right border and only the left border showed up on the category blog layout. You can check the link for yourself to see what I am talking about.

http://test.sjcpos.edu.tt/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=114&Itemid=264

: Re: Category Blog Layout
: jonahh February 08, 2011, 02:19:16 PM
I took a look and see what you mean, if you change the width here this will fix the issue for the top border but not for where the article text is.  not sure how you would get that to be full width:

table.contentpaneopen {
    border: 1px solid #000066;
    width: 97%;
}
template.css (line 119)

: Re: Category Blog Layout
: Renee-amanda Heywood February 08, 2011, 02:35:12 PM
The top border is shown now but how do I fix the width of each article because it goes out of the margins.

: Re: Category Blog Layout
: jonahh February 10, 2011, 12:49:52 PM
Thats what I was saying, not sure how to do this with just adding some CSS to it
