: What features do you want the most for your templates?
: mikek May 01, 2007, 05:12:52 PM
There are a lot of features that we could put into our templates, but we'd really like to know what you are looking for the most. Also, some features can be done in multiple ways; for example a template with multiple colors can be done with an image swapper button on the homepage or by pre-defining a style in the backend. Which do you prefer? The same question could apply to font adjusters and width adjusters. We're looking for any input at all; new features, changing a feature, etc., we value everyone's opinion!

Thank you,

A feature that allows the frontpage to be linked to the forums. In other words if you post a news article to the frontpage a thread is created in the forums automatically. Similar to the VBulletin feature.

Example of the VBulletin feature can be seen on www.zgeek.com.

If you use JSMF bridge there is a mambot like that. It works for many language but not correctly for German, French and some other Latin country's, because of the charset. if you got accent in your joomla news, then you got some problems in the forum.
For example , you got a word like "essayé" you will have "essay&\#" in the forum.
But it if you want Joomla and bridged SMF Forum, just use the JSMF component, optional modules and bots of http://www.joomlahacks.com

there is no suggest modules/components section so i ask you this here ^^.

I love the S5 VM Accordion Menu, but i don't use VM. could it be possible to realize a S5 Accordion Menu for normal Joomla sites ?

Thanks alduccio, we have been thinking about releasing one for Joomla itself, several other people have suggested the same thing.  Sound like we should get working on this :)

Hi,

I would like to use VM Accordion Menu, however I am developing a company website so I don't plan to use  Virtuemart (I'm setting it up on a standard joomla 1.5 template). Would it be possible to integrate VM Accordion Menu there? If not, then when are you planning to release this Accordion Menu for standard joomla. I need to make a fast decision on whether to buy it or not.

Cheers,

Also, we are completely new to Joomla, have bought your module, but are struggling to use it. Haven't fugired out how to manage images. Can upload in 'Content manager' but don't know how to access manage or use.
Also, on our page, there is jumbled code looking text in the search bar i can't get rid of. Many thanks,
Please advise.

Hi Brett,

You should publish your search module on that position, now overthere is the newsflash published.
The best thing you can do is that you take a look at the positions on your site, by visiting the following link;
http://www.livingessence.com.au/index.php?tp=1
As you notice, the search has as position "top".

So next thing you should do, is go to site modules in the backend, click on the "search" module, give it the position "top" and last but not least, don't forget to unpublish the newsflash module or put it on another position.

Regarding the event module, hav eyou checked out this site allready?
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,listcats/cat_id,1832/Itemid,35/

Best of luck with your website.

Does anybody know if it is possible to use the VM Lytebox feature (as in eMercantilism) in other templates?
I would really like to have this nice thing in the Your Store template...

My favorite feature I would like to see is the parallax effect.  You can view example of this from my post on parallax here:

choice of fixed width AND fluid widths in templates  (if its not already)    ;D

I am especially impressed with code that doesn't conflict with other modules.   Major bonus

Not to be too greedy - BUT.... ::)    color options on all would be great so that menus etc can swap out quickly via parameters.    I know they are there on some, but all would be nice!   :P     There are some templates that are so great, but I am limited by the BIG black menu bars-some other shades of grey?

External Link Icon

Maybe I'm in the wrong place, but external link icon, a link to an external website would be well nice being able to manage from our template.

I know there are some plugin, but I wonder Shape5 may give me a code, maybe a plugin for Shape5 template that we can install or copy somewhere.

So differentiate my external link to my internal link.

Thank Shape5.

Not strictly a template feature but....

I see the recent Kunena compatible template and have just started using Kunena myself but am flabbergasted that so far there's not an extension anywhere that creates an email to all forum members containing the latest posts. (Like Yahoo and Drupal  etc... have been doing for years !)

If Shape5 were to come up with that extension you'd pick up every Community Builder, Acajoom and Kunena user !  ;)

@ mikeg40   she just walked past your window but your eyes were glued to the porn on your screen !

I believe I saw a previous post that mentioned s5 did not design fluid sites due to issues with complying with older browsers (if I'm not mistaken)

SO!  Now that everyone is ceasing to accommodate that evil dragon ie6,  can we see some fluid and adjustable options?

I find your designs to be some of the most attractive and I'd much rather use s5 more often.  Modern monitors are at a completely different aspect ratio from old designs  (I mean basically the difference in a "portrait" layout versus "landscape" layout)  If this were only adjustable!!!

Please?   Please, please please?   :-*

Hello,

Yes we actually have started fluid widths, not every template will have them but we are starting to include them as much as possible.  Bridge of Hope was the first fluid and pixel width template we've released in a while.

Thanks for all so far.

Something I think would benefit the S5 Clan Roster you just released is a "Clan Application" form to accompany the Roster.  I also think making the form post to the major forum software out there would be nice as well.  That way clan members can all review the clan application in the forums...  I used to have this on another site but haven't seen anything like this for joomla/kunena.

Also if there was a way to sort based on the rank of a clan/guild member.
I made an extra field called "Rank" but when I save the changes - all the clan members shift on the roster.

I guess I could just create categories - but i'd prefer if they were all on one page.

Donation tracker would be nice.  A simple horizontal, customizable (color foreground and background), meter and a donate button.  Maybe a little table under the meter stating that month/years goal and total collected as of now.  Yet to find a good one of these and will come in handy with non-profit sites.  Don't get my wrong there are some out there but they are stupid thermometers and hard to customize.

I'm not sure what the etiquette of mentioning other template clubs but there i cam across an oldish template that has a constantly changing background color. Its sooooo cool i havn't seen anything like it. every few seconds the background color gradually changes and then stays for a while before changing again without any prompts.

I've tried looking for a script that can do something similar and havnt found anything at all. IU wonder if anyone can point me to somewhere where i can find something similar.

THis would be a great feature on S5 templates.

: Re: What features do you want the most for your templates?
: jc786 February 03, 2010, 05:31:12 AM
yes but is there anyway to use that script in any other template. I am willing to just use the script with any backend configuration options eg just adding say a fixed number of images without the option to change them etc and copy the script into say the index file. Would that work or any other suggestions?

... we'd really like to know what you are looking for the most.

A feature I have been wanting for a long time is a registration module similar to Community Builder's that requires a registrant to enter BOTH a first name and a last name, not just a single "Name" field. (I won't let "John" register, but will let "John Mortenson" register.) It should include the ability to optionally require additional fields like street address, phone number, and so on. I don't want to have to install CB just to get that. I love the work you folks do. Keep it  up!

I would like to see a news module for the front page and or news page that will display an image/icon in all topics.

I know there is one currently where you can choose the first article to show an image. But I would like to have the other sub articles from 2 up) to be able to display icon/image as well.

For us, we have two different sections running, with several categories below it (I know the categories will change in 1.6)

So if you have Sec1/cat3 the article would display the cat3 icon.. or allow for the first image to be displayed. Rocket Themes has something similar, though it is not the best.. not quite as reliable as I would like it so I do not use it. (not to mention a few js conflicts in it).

Okay, that is my idea for now. :)

Peace,
Sarrene'

I would like for s5 templates to use a "logo" module position instead of a static logo image, I routinely add the following code to s5 template index.php files so that if a module is published to the "logo" position the static logo image isn't displayed but otherwise it displays the standard template logo.

:
				<?php if($this->countModules('logo')) { ?>
                    <div id="s5_logo_module" onclick="window.document.location.href='<?php echo $LiveSiteUrl ?>'">
                        <jdoc:include type="modules" name="logo" style="notitle" />
                    </div>
                <?php } else { ?>
                    <div id="s5_logo" onclick="window.document.location.href='<?php echo $LiveSiteUrl ?>'"></div>
<?php ?>
... with the "s5_logo_module" css selector added to template.css file, removing the height and background attributes of the "s5_logo" selector but otherwise Identical.

I know its really simple but it appeals to the majority of my clients and its easier to explain how to change their site logo this way.

I figure if this is the only request I can come up with then you all are doing an excellent job and even if its never used at least it was considered ...

Thanks :D

I am a member of a local photo club, and have been looking for theese features:
Event calendar to register and show future events in the club
Integration to web gallery and forum to achieve single sign on
Simple slide show to automatically show pictures in a spesified folder on page load, sorted random, new to old etc.

Theese features may be implemented from third party developers, but the integration is not very good, (colors, transparency, different databse, behavior etc, etc)

: jjmironb May 22, 2011, 01:36:02 AM
Hi guys what I'm about is design menus that way that changing them across themes may be easy.
Keep all files (images, js, css, etc) in one catalog Menu for example. Then if i like menu from different layout all I have to do is just change that catalog with all files in. It would let make changes easier as well as all files are kept in one place.
What do you think?

: Re: What features do you want the most for your templates?
: fairwea1 September 12, 2011, 07:04:01 PM
Hi,

One thing that would be interesting would be to have lazy load only work on certain menus and or components.

: Re: What features do you want the most for your templates?
: netician December 27, 2011, 02:57:10 AM

1) The ability to shift the dropdown feature to lower parts of the site, so that when the move down option is used
the header and menu of the site stays in place while the rest of the site moves down,  or the overlay drops down over the lower part of the site without obscuring the header and area and menu. If implemented their should be an option to decide if the menu drop is above or below the overlay drop down.

2) Lots more template specific options especially for background colors in every template blocks and all menu areas like in Sienna.

3) Lots more module styles and colors in all template regardless of the particular style of that template.

4) The ability to turn off template graphics or choose between loading template graphics or using background colors on all menus and modules and blocks, for even faster loading and a greater range or customization.

5) Configuration options for rounding of corners or not, on all menus, blocks and modules in a template.

6) Options to keep or remover shadows.

7) Options to keep or remove separators.

8) A lot more styling options on the live search (see universal ajax live search module by Offlagn.com.

9) A width switcher for fluid widths with 3 options like the font switcher

10) Always have module positions at the top of the site like in sienna but are missing from Callie Rush

11) Make the new options that are added to templates as backward compatible as possible.

12) The ability to add module positions via and templates configuration screen.

13) Background color configurations options on all templates and option to turn or background images and set color instead.

14) Option to upload a background image or images and have a range or background images that can be related to menu selections.

Personally I like to be able to strip out a template of all the graphics that have been added and add them back in as needed. But no template club provides the ability to do this via the backend. So if you comment out the graphics that are being called via the code you end up with http calls that don't work. So I would like to be have a screen that shows me all the graphics that are being used in a template and be able to turn them off and set background colors instead and corner stylings also.

15) Option to have a background colors in areas such as headers menus and just below the menu, to be as wide as the site or  100% screen wide.

16) A full range of present style for templates in which graphics are used more than template specific options. For example the Callie Rush template is great but the area surround the menu buttons and the buttons themselves need a range of color options to ad a little contrast to the template if needed. Plus background color options also.

17) Keep all templates up to date with features of latest template, just as the framework is kept up to date. i.e Template Versions.

18) An area on your site where a road map of framework and template enhancements can be viewed. Not knowing what is coming from template clubs until they release the template makes it hard to plan. Previews would be good, but at least some idea of what features are coming would be very good. You could use a uservoice.com style system or some other way of letting people vote up features. Its a great way to get members more engaged and I have not found a club yet that really listens to its members in a systematic fashion.

So many templates become obsolete with time. This is one of the main problems with all the template clubs. It would be great if one template club could make it their policy to provide template updates just as component developers do and if possible to provide update notification  from within the template backend. One click update of the template while keeping the configurations would also be great. There is nothing worse than watching a template you like gradually become obsolete Joomla progresses. Regular template upgrades, via the backend would be a great way to keep members subscriptions active, even after they have downloaded the templates they need. No club I know of has done this before and it is something that is very very needed.

I sure hope you can implement a few of these suggestions into your templates from February. Judging from how good vertex is already if anyone can you can.

Paradigm Shift is arguably my all-time Shape 5 template. Unfortunately, much of its elegance and SEO effectiveness is degraded by Image Slide [2].

I realize this thread is purely for template "feature" wish-lists; but I am implicitly suggesting an overhaul of Image Slide [2], which, after all, is so prominently front-and-center in Paradigm Shift.

It seems to me that a redesigned Image Slide which allows image and text elements as separate entities that can be manipulated independently -- edited, copied, pasted, reused, combined, etc. ? would be so much more useful and practical. That's what JCE and similar editors are for.

In its current form, Image Slide [2] has far too many requirements that amount to an awful lot of extra work -- creating composite images in a graphics application, matching site colors, creating transparencies that render perfectly, etc.

Paradigm Shift is one of those timeless treasures that easily take on a new personality with each deployment. Eliminating the albatross of composite images in static content will help ensure that it keeps on giving for all time.

Thanks for listening, and best wishes for continued success always!

A feature that can improve your creativity for fonts, colors and background colors would be awesome. And also, to improve the quality of your photographs. Thanks!

How about a scroll to top button in the admin back end. It would be a help for the longer pages.

Hello,

In the back end you can scroll to the top by hitting the Home button on your keyboard, vice versa for the End key.

Hello,

I would suggest looking on extensions.joomla.org for advertising extensions.

Search module that has similar functions to RocketThemes Search module.
What I think RT has over the Shae5 module is that you can actually set up pagination to have it scroll through. Makes it a lot easier for users to view the results without a super long window, or going to another page.

Currently using RT's search module, it conflicts with a couple Shape5 modules. I would rather use components and modules and such from here if possible.

Example:
http://triadmain.com/media-gallery  (Temp Site- will be gone by new years and on our live site)
Upper right side is the Search bar..
try a search for "neithus"

So far, other than that, Shape5 is great.

Peace,
Sarrene'

Hello,

Could you be more specific about a "Cartoon Video"? You can record and upload content via YouTube and them embed it via a custom HTML module.
