: hacked through template
: chiwiz August 20, 2008, 09:42:06 PM
I suffered an attack by some Turkish invaders this morning and found that the file they changed was the userchoice template index.php file.

After many hours of searching, this was the only file I could see that was changed. I just deleted the index.php file by overwriting the original template index.php and everything worked again.

I read the forums to find that there is quite a bit of this hacking and so took the advice and immediately upgraded the site to 1.5.6

If they are exploiting this vulnerability to change the template, can you advise what might be done to protect the site from such invasion?

If you are inrerested I have saved the corrupt index.php file which has the redirection  etc on it.

Hello,

I am sorry to hear that your site was hacked. Templates really don't have vulnerabilities, they're most just css and images. Most hacking is done through exploits in servers or php scripts not being up to date.
