If you like this template and if you have a few minutes, we'd greatly appreciate a quick review on Sea of Glass or even on Shape 5 itself over at Best of Joomla.  The URL is http://www.bestofjoomla.com

Thanks!

Hi,

...review posted.  :) ...yes you got gold stars... why, did you expect anything less?  :D

Anyhow, the Sept-08 got me tingly all over.

The last month I've been looking for a new template for my personal site where I want to present my photos, CV and some other self-promotional stuff. Nowhere I found anything suitable... until now.  :)

Glad to see two things:
1. The implementation of an advanced image slider w text. (No more Gavick pro... well I want both!)
2. The sub-comment on menu items. Perfect! It gives the user a good orientation plus admin a way to make small promos.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The only downside I see right now, which is something that is common for several template clubs;
is the lack of 'Typography adoption'. What I mean by this is that the typography in each template do not reflect the templates 'aura'. Instead it's often very 'Joomla!-like' - flat, simple and very system-like.

The reason for this is probably due to that the typography can heavily impact content and component layout.
But that's expected... and sometimes necessary. The strive here should be to make homogeneous template look.
As of now I have to make these necessary changes myself, which is ok. But it would be nice with separate CSS files included in the template: One for 'standard' setup and one more adopted to the actual theme. Maybe selectable from within the 'Template manager'?

Just my ideas...

Regards
Akerman

Jonah,

I'll be putting up the rave reviews AFTER I'm done refining http://new.goweb3d.com and shifting it to the main http://goweb3d.com (which uses JA_Purity and is already unbearable to look at lol no slight to the JA people).

Would just also like to express my thanks in this public forum for fixing the background issue in SeOfGlass within days. We have definitely more than got our money's worth.

Cheers.

Hello,

Yes this is correct but its also in the params.ini file, if you change the text in your joomla template manager it should update it in params.ini too.

: delliana December 04, 2008, 05:56:56 PM
Also Im now afraid to use site shaper as it will apparently delete any work I have done
I paid for this and I would like support other waiting for a forum post if at all possible please.
There should be full step by steps in this form- I figured there would be  :(

Hello,

The PSDs are for Adobe Photoshop and you can use these to change any of the templates images if you have adobe photoshop.

The Site Shaper itself is a Joomla install with our demo data but it sounds like you dont want to lose your data so perhaps this isn't the route you want to take.

The SQL file will also cause you to lose your data, although it would get your site setup like our demo.

So in regards to getting it setup besides this methods you'll have to manually do everything, which isn't hard.  You have the template installed so the next step would to be install the s5 horizontal login and s5 slideshow advance both available in the sea of glass downloads section.

Publish the slideshow advance to the advert1 position and publish the horiztonal login to the icon position.  Check out the below it will show you where all the module positions are in this template:

http://shape5.com/demo/seaofglass/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14&Itemid=49

Let me know if you need any more help.

Regards,

Thank You Jonah,
Sorry for getting frustrated.
Already been using the module positions,
the horizontal login is in, I will do the slideshow later tonight when I get home from work--
If I do a back up would that work?

Mainly I am concerned with how do I get my own image in there - and get images on each page??
This was the main reason I wanted the beautiful template. Are there file names I need to know/replace?

Thank you very much for your help & support  :)

Hello,

Oh ok, well the images can be added via the administration side of the slideshow advance.  You have to upload your images to your server and then take the URL to where they are located and put it in the admin side of the slideshow advance module.

Ok I can figure out how to make the slideshow work.  I am talking about using my own images as the background on the template, as in the demo:
http://shape5.com/demo/seaofglass/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=43&Itemid=101 (http://shape5.com/demo/seaofglass/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=43&Itemid=101)
(!)

I love the Sea of Glass template but am having problem setting background image.  I've successfully set images via the menu manager.system properties.  My problem occurs when I dynamically create a new page.....background defaults to default image.  How can I specify the background image for creation dynamically? PHP and/or javascript?

: Re: Sea of Glass
: jonahh May 16, 2009, 12:52:51 PM
Unfortunately if the page is being created dynamically and there is no menu item assigned to it there isn't a way to assign a different background besides the default one in the template parameters.  The template uses the Joomla menu icon system and hacks it with javascript so that it shows up as a background.
