Hi there
All of a sudden today - one of my sites has crashed.
I get the following text (and more) on my web pages:
Deprecated: Function ereg() is deprecated in /home/www/sainst.org/templates/elegance/index.php on line 169
When I go into the global configuration in the Administrator - I get the same message.

Site address: www.sainst.org

As far as I know there have been no changes on the site or anything else?

Any suggestions?
Should I try re-installing the template?

Regards
Lex

Hello

The deprecated means you need to upgrade your Joomla version.  Its running php code that is no longer used by the php your server is on.

Also you can update the template with a fresh download as we updated the ereg stuff over a year ago

Hi Jonah
I have just downloaded the ver 1.5 template from your site and upgraded and I get the error message you can see in the attachment.
Two things have happened on my server.
PHP has been upgraded to 5.3.9
and MySQL has been upgraded to 5.1.57

Could this have caused the problem and should I downgrade PHP.

I am talking to the client about upgrading to Joomla 2.5 - and I assume this will solve the problem?
But is there a short term solution?
Thanks

This error is probably still coming because your Joomla version is out of date.  Grab a patch 1.5.0 to 1.5.25 from joomla.org and extract to root of your Joomla install this should fix any joomla errors you see like the one upon installing

Thanks Jonah
I still get the error
I applied the patch
I tried to upgrade the Elegance template - but when I do that it tells me that the template already exists.
How do I upgrade the template - I downloaded the template from the Shape5 site and then used the Install/Uninstall to try and upgrade the template.
What can you suggest at this stage?

Help!  ???
I really need some help solving this problem.
See previous post.
Site has been down 4 days and client is mad at me - I do not know what to do - I do not know if I a template upgrade is the solution - but I do not seem to be able to do that.
Also - problem started when PHP was upgraded on the server - but I do not want to return to old PHP since there are 20 other sites on the server - and a few that will be upgraded to J2.5 soon and I need the later PHP.
Client is not prepared to upgrade to J2.5 - although I have tried on another folder - and the upgrade is not working well - have lost a lots of functionality - and it seems a long job trying to get it to work as well (although if I could get upgrade to work then problem would be solved)
Compare the two versions:
J 1.5 -http://www.sainst.org/
J2.5 - http://sainst.org/joomla25/

For the 1.5 version you just need to uninstall and then reinstall the template and modules giving the errors.  I see the image fader and accordion module need to be updated.

If I uninstall and install the template - do I not loose all my settings, module positions etc etc
Same thing with uninstalling a module - will that not loose all the information that has been set up with that module - position - content etc?

For the template you will only lose the settings in the admin area of the template which are easily replicated.  Or what you can do is just take the files (excluding the params.ini) and overwrite your current ones, this will also fix the issues.  I would do this for both the template and the modules so you dont' lose anything
