: installer hangs up on database setup section
: boondocker April 09, 2012, 11:25:37 AM
I finally signed up because of the site shaper supposedly only taking a few minutes to set up a complete demo site.  I have been in agony for two days not being able to get past the database set up section of the installer.  I had several server techs work with me, two were Joomla setup experts.  One of them explained that Joomla is currently broken and a fix may be forth coming.  Should I ask for a refund or wait for this fix or is there some way I can install Callie Rush template now.  I would appreciate the true story as I have successfully setup older versions of free templates before but am not familiar with the newer v2.5.4  Thanks for any help!

Hello,

Please be more specific. Are you receiving an error message? If it's hanging up at the database section then that usually occurs when there's an issue with your mysql server or the information you are entering is wrong. You would need to check with your host to make sure your information is correct.

This site shaper has been installed literally thousands of times with no issues. There is nothing wrong with the current files of the site shaper.

Thanks for your comments.  I have configured, deleted, reconfigured the data bases many times, sometimes with the help of the server techs who are very familiar with Joomla.  The database section of the installer returns an error 2 and will not continue past that point.  I then deleted everything from the server and tried using the server side "quick installer" to load Joomla which worked ok and then imported callie rush with out the site shaper demo files.  that did work but was so confusing because it mixed the callie rush files in with the quick installer demo files with the callie rush files.  I want a clean install of callie rush in an isolated directory so I have a starting point for understanding.  My servers quick installer loads joomla 2.5.4  If I understand site shaper it installs it's own instance of joomla in the respective target directory.

Hello,

You would need to be using your server's quick install at all during the installation. A site shaper is a complete installation of Joomla with our demo data pre-installed. It must be installed into a blank database and empty folder. It cannot be incorporated into an existing Joomla installation. Please be sure you are following the site shaper tutorial here:

http://www.shape5.com/joomla_tutorials.html

The site shaper is simply using the default Joomla install files, the only thing different is that our modules files, images and sql data import file are included. The rest is exactly the same as a default Joomla install and would install the same way.

ok that clarifies things a little, I'll go run through a step by step install with site shaper again.  Thanks.

ok I erased all the databases and files in the target directory on the server.  I created a new database and new user.  I uploaded a clean copy of unzipped callie rush files.  I pointed my firefox browser at the directory and the installer ran through the first 3 sections ok.  when it got to the database section it returned the message (Could not connect to the database. Connector returned number: 2).  Same as many times before!  nothing has changed.  Baffled.

Hello,

That error message, as I stated above is related only to your server or the settings are incorrect. It means the settings provided cannot connect be used to connect to your mysql server. The site shaper has no way to control this.

If you can private message me the following I can check it for you:

1. cpanel access
2. mysql username
3. mysql password
4. mysql database name
5. url of the installation
6. ftp access

That will give me enough information to check your settings.
