Shape 5

Heya.

This isn't just a HexiconGamer issue. It keeps doing it on all the templates I've ran. The only thing I've done so far is update to 2.5. I don't have anything installed that could be affecting this.

If it's from the upgrade, how can I fix it?

So. When you visit the Demo of HexiconGamers  --> http://www.shape5.com/demo/index.php?wp/hexicon-gamer/

And then you visit my site with a stock installation that's upgrade to 2.5 http://www.cerebralgamers.com

When you click on one of the articles on the left hand side.Let's say the article "Transformers Video Game"

The article brings you to the actual content with no other modules around it on the Shape5 Demo, making it a page but nothing but the content of that article. However on my site, clicking the same article brings you to the top of the page and then the content is just shown on the same page with just the extra content on the page. Also to point out. the "Read More Button" shows the Read more as well as the full name of the article


How can I fix that? I'm trying to exactly replicate the demo as far as how it's functioning

I can provide pictures if necessary if you don't understand.

I'm not sure if this is a plugin no longer working from the 1.7 to 2.5 upgrade or permission changes or what ever.

This is an issue with SEF URLs

Can you disable SEF URLs in the Joomla Backend > Global Configuration and see if it helps.

I also don't see the read more buttons currently on that URL

Hello. I believe you were talking about search friendly urls, correct? I disabled it and had no results.

Another thing to point out after trying to play around with it a bit is that the images also do not show up and I haven't removed the sample images.


I changed the category of the article to something different, and changed it back which removed the article.

I also noticed the "Read more" buttons were removed. Again, I haven't done anything outside of update the template.

I will try another fresh install and an immediate disable of the SEF URL with it disabled.

Any other thoughts?

I believe the most recent Hexicon Gamer package can be updated directly into 2.5 without any issues. I would create a new database and do a fresh install of the site shaper first to see if this resolves the issue.

If you PM me your FTP/Joomla Login once your site is set up I can fix your SEF URLs on your server so you don't have to disable it and your site will appear better in search providers. You just need to modify the htaccess file on your hosting account which I can do fairly easily.

I reinstalled the joomla shaper 4x today and did the update. it does it for all the templates so far and only of yours. I installed Catalyst from another source without those same issues.

I'll try again tomorrow. Playing with another theme right now.

I really want to use Joomla/Wordpress but it's actually much more difficult to use than vBulletin when trying to make it more user friendly for people in the community. There's plugins to install, I understand that -- Though these templates aren't designed with that in mind it seems.

Joomla and Wordpress are both extensive CMS systems but once you get used to them your users will appreciated all the extensive features you can add for them. The templates are just essentially the paint job on a car and the extensions/joomla are what make every thing else run.

OpenSorceTraining has some great material that explains Joomla/Wordpress/Drupal/Coding in easy to understand videos. I would highly recommend checking them out.

If you need help setting up a template to look exactly like the demo on your server just send me the FTP/Cpanel details and the login credentials you would like and I can set it up for you. It might be something that was set up wrong on the hosting side of things.
