: OWN USE LICENCE??
: hexweb April 10, 2013, 02:32:04 PM
Hi

As part of my business I do Web Development, but I am also an investor and have a share in several businesses belonging primarily to others. These businesses are primarily IT related.

My question is this...

I am in the process of revamping several of the websites belonging to businesses I am in partnership with.

There are a couple of Shape5 Themes which I may like to use.

This would be uneconomical if I was to subscribe to the developer licence, as the cost of this is not covered by a client.

As the websites partially belong to myself is it safe to say I can purchase maybe the 3 Domain package and still legally use the templates?

Thanks

Hello,

If you are planning to use our products on websites other than your own personal sites then you would need a developer membership. This restriction excludes non-profit sites however. All the other memberships are meant for domains that you personally own.

If this is out of your budget for the project you can have each individual business sign up for Basic $49.99 (1 Domain) or Value $79.99 (3 Domain) plans depending on how many domains they need. This way they would own the license (for their domains) but you would just be the developer working on the project.

Hi Mike

Thanks for the reply.. but maybe I need to be a bit more specific.

I am partner in 4 computer repair businesses.. because of the recent recession this works well as all 4 businesses tend to work together passing specialist work to each other.

Also, I am a partner in my girlfriends Art & Sculpture business.

The domains are all registered with the original business owner as they ran the businesses alone before I invested.

So far I think I want to use 2 of your Themes, one for the Ipad repair business, the other for my girlfriends portfolio of Art.

As I am partner would it not make more sense for me to sign up to the 3 domain package?

Thanks

PS - Obviously if I want in future to use any of your themes for any external development work that comes in I understand that a Developer Licence is neccesary, which is fair enough and would be covered by clients cost.

Hello,

Thanks for the information. I have forwarded the thread to our Accounts Team so they can confirm what type of membership would be required for this type of work based on our ToS. They will respond ASAP letting you know which membership would work for this situation.

Thanks Mike

I just think that as a legal partner in the businesses that the themes are required for it would only be fair that I can purchase the 3 domain licence. And if needed in future upgrade to developer for other clients web projects.

Please let me know ASAP

Many thanks

Hello,

Because you are personally partnered with these businesses, any of the standard memberships would be fine, there's no need for a developer membership.

Hi

Great news =)

I do understand that commercial development for unrelated clients would require the developer licence and am happy to stick to this policy.

Thanks for checking this out for me just wanted to make sure nothing caused future issues. Off to buy the $79 one.

Thanks again
