: Cant make sense of tutorial.
: roseline July 09, 2013, 03:52:59 PM
I'm having problems making sense of the compassion theme tutorial pages.. I have created several wordpress sites using themeforest themes before and I have not had a problem so expected this to be straight forward but I cant make sense of how to do anything with this theme.. do you have any video tutorials for this theme or a similar one that i can review to get the basics?

Would really appreciate some urgent help as I only joined to use this theme..  www.ndorocc.org.uk/wordpress

It looks like your site is fine, you just need to update Widget Context to use the version available in one of the latest Shaper releases; the current official version has a bug that prevents it from hiding things properly, and the latest shapers have a modified version that fixes the bug.

If that's not the problem you're having, can you be more specific about what you're having difficulty with?  I can't improve the WP version of the framework if I don't know what the problems are that people are having.  I also can't provide help if I don't know what specifically needs help.

The majority of the theme related customization can be found in the theme admin "Shape 5 Theme" on the admin menu.

Thanks for your prompt response. My feedback would be you really need to create some video or detailed tutorials for how to work with your theme(s), & plugins it is not intuitive or straight forward as you would expect as a wordpress user. to be more specific on help I need.

q1: how to remove dropdown panel right at the top of the site?

q2: how to fix/adjust the width of the page as its cutting right off in the middle? (http://ndorocc.org.uk/wordpress/donate)

q3:  how to assign posts to blog menu/tab?

q4: how to edit S5 ACCORDION MENU per page? (http://ndorocc.org.uk/wordpress/donate)

Kind Regards

Roseline

I have been putting a lot of effort into finding ways to improve the "user-friendliness" of releases, but the main problem is that the Joomla versions I'm reprogramming to work on WP are even less intuitive, and some of that can't be changed without breaking the way they work.  I am always interested to hear what people think would make things more user friendly, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

q1: how to remove dropdown panel right at the top of the site?

It looks like you've already managed to remove it, but if you haven't, just remove all widgets from the "Drop Down 1-6" sidebar positions.

q2: how to fix/adjust the width of the page as its cutting right off in the middle? (http://ndorocc.org.uk/wordpress/donate)

The site width can be adjusted in the theme options:  Shape 5 Theme -> Layout
Almost everything that can be adjusted about the theme is in the options area, so I suggest exploring all the tabs to see what can be done.

q3:  how to assign posts to blog menu/tab?

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking.  Assigning a different blog/home page is a core WordPress function, and can be found under "Settings -> Reading" in the WordPress admin.

q4: how to edit S5 ACCORDION MENU per page? (http://ndorocc.org.uk/wordpress/donate)

The version of Accordion Menu that works on older releases like Compassion uses the page structure to generate the menu; it can only be changed globally, and that can only be done by changing your page structure across the whole site.

The new responsive version uses the custom menus that were introduced in WP 3, but it may not function correctly on an old release.
