: Category Blog Layout - columns?
: knakonec November 03, 2013, 08:24:13 AM
On my site, I have a menu item that links (Category Blog Layout type) here ( http://{domain_removed}/index.php/home/human-factors/human-factors-course-descriptions ). I am wanting the articles to appear in two columns in the content area, but it does not seem to be working. I have the blog layout options configured as follows:

If a field is left blank, global settings will be used.
# Leading Articles 2
# Intro Articles 8
# Columns 2
# Links 0
Multi Column Order Down

However, as you can see I'm only getting a single column. Am I trying to do something tht is not supported by the CYan template specifically?

Hello,

Check your settings under the Menu Item specifically. The way Joomla works is it takes the "Global Settings" and applies it to everything. However, any Menu Settings will override the Global Settings and any Article Settings will override the Global Settings but not the Menu Settings.

Menu Settings > Article Settings > Global Settings

Check these settings and make sure they are set appropriately.

Thanks for the reply. The column display options I configured were under the menu item (which if I understand you correctly, is the area that is given highest precedence). Screen shot can be found here - https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=BFB95BEDC003F360!196&v=3 (https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=BFB95BEDC003F360!196&v=3)

I also just checked the blog layout options in article manager, they are:

# Leading Articles   1
# Intro Articles  6
# Columns  2
# Links  4
Multi Column Order Across

Not exactly the same, but I should still be seeing two columns somewhere, no?

Hello,

Your screenshot doesn't seem to be appearing. Also, could you PM me Super User access instead with some detail of the page where you want a 2 column layout and I can take a look.

Screenshots have been posted to a different server (click or copy/paste the URL) - original http://{domain_removed}/capture.png

Note that if I simply change the site default template to one of the Joomla sample templates, the column layout works as expected - http://{domain_removed}/capture2.png

PMing credentials shortly...

Solution was: "It seems you may have had an older version of the com_content.css file. I updated this file which seemed to be missing the .col classes used for columns. I tested the same page and it is now showing columns correctly."

Thanks shape5 for the support!
