: upgrading template / minimizing downtime

Hello,

I'm about to renew the membership as I would like to upgrade template (Hexicon Gamer) on our web site to Velocity.

My question is:
Do you have a process that would allow me to upgrade to the latest template without risk of a downtime or screw ups?
Something like making a copy of the existing web site, creating another instance of it that would allow me to make the necessary modifications (template, layout) to the test web site. Once satisfied with test site, I would like to restore it to where the production site is.
I guess I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, for example on how to handle multiple instances of the same database under the same domain / server.
I'm presently running Joomla 2.5

Many thanks,
Lubo

Hello Lubo,

We don't have anything that will do this but there are extensions on extensions.joomla.org that will.  Just lookup site backup extensions.

Just to add to this,

There are 2 common ways you can duplicate a site.

1) Manually Copy Files + Database and change configuration.php file to point to the new "duplicated" database

2) Akeeba Backup + Kickstart (This can be easier for some users)
