Dear support team,

We experience very long loading times of our website with the Big Picture template and we are trying to identify the cause of that.

The server people suggested the template is loading APC which is incompatible with our server:

"This is due to you having APC loaded, but you are using SuPHP as your PHP handler. SuPHP is not compatible with opcode caching due to the way it runs scripts, so you will either want to disable APC, or switch to DSO."

Is this something you can confirm, and is there a solution for it?

NB All compression options are already enabled.

Currently we are also experiencing Internal Server Errors.

Could this have to do with the said APC / suPHP issue?

I tested a few Templates locally and live including this one and none of them were taking a long time to load. Load times are mostly based on the quality and response time on the server as the Template files are pretty small as long as you aren't using any media rich extensions / modules. APC is controlled via the Joomla Global Configuration which the Template doesn't control. You can try setting your cache mode to "file" instead.

It sounds like something on your server is also causing delays. How does our Template demos load in comparison to your site? This will give you a better idea of the "expected" load times but keep in mind if you are using a shared host a lot of the times the resources are shared amongst other sites and can cause delays.

Also be sure you meet all the recommended server settings for your CMS
