: Templates under Joomla 3.2.3 can not be edited
: ja1969 March 20, 2014, 07:27:21 AM
Hi,

I have different sites using different s5 templates.
On all websites, where I updated to 3.2.3 the Vertex framework tab in template is no longer visible (see screenshot).
All templates using Vertex 3.4.0
What is the reason behind and how can I fix this problem?
thanx in advance for your help and support.

cheers
Joachim

Hello,

I would suggest by patching with 3.5, which we just launched today:

http://www.shape5.com/blog/Vertex-3.5-Has-Been-Released.html

This fixes several frontend issues with 3.2.3 but we have no reports from other members regarding backend issues, and we have several installs running 3.2.3 with no issues.

Problem now is, that new installation of template is not possible.
I just downloaded the current version from today but without success installing it.
See screenshot.

Updating vertex makes no sense, if the template does not install correctly, doesnt it? ;-)

How can we solve this shortly?

Just to verify you are trying to install Velocity on Joomla 3.2.3?

Two things ;-)

First, I found out, that editing s5 template under 3.2.3 is no longer possible.
This one might be fixed with Vertex 3.5 upgrade, but I have to test it.

Second, on one page, I uninstalled the template (before putting my question here) and then I tried to install again, but without success.
For this problem, a solution is missing.

Hello,

That sounds like an issue with your installs or possibly a third party conflict.  I have verified on several 3.2.3 installs that the backend is loading with no issues at all and I am able to make changes. If you have any third party plugins enabled I would suggest disabling them as one of them is maybe not compatible with 3.2.3 and causing errors on the template page. On a fresh install though it works with no issues.

Just to clarify I have also installed a fresh Joomla 3.2.3 install directly from joomla.org and installed five vertex templates with no issues and was able to load the backend and save the configurations. Possibly a way to debug this would be to do the same thing on your server, ie: install a fresh 3.2.3 install in a sub folder. If the templates install on a fresh installation then there's no issue with the template, and it would point to an issue with your install. But if they don't install then that would lead to a server configuration issue since it installs on my location and not another.

Also, I am not sure what you are showing in your screenshot? I see a picture of your Outlook emails?

I tested now the installation on a new 3.2.3, that I installed yesterday.
Installation works fine, BUT editing is NOT possible!!! Vertex TAB is NOT available....

Hello,

I am logged into the backend of your site and it's loading the template admin with no issues for me. I was able to change the first highlight color parameter with no issues, see the attached image.

I would say that your server is taking a very long time to respond. The backend works ondomready calls and won't show until the entire dom has loaded. On your server it's taking about 5 to 8 seconds for the backend to load, but it is loading.

Another issue could be a cache issue. You could try clearing your browser cache or simply try from another browser, make sure you're not using IE it has a lot of ajax problems.

Hi,

yes, there seems to be a browser cache issue, after upgrading to 3.2.3
Now I work with a different PC and it is shown to me as expected :-)

In one of my installations I still have the problem, that I can not install any S5 template:
"JLIB_INSTALLER_ERROR_FILE_EXISTS" is the error message.

What is behind this message? What has to be deleted?

Background:
I moved my website today with Akeeba Backup and Kickstart to a new directory, new domain and new database. On the same server.
The move worked fine, except the s5 template installation :-(

Any ideas?

Hello,

JLIB_INSTALLER_ERROR_FILE_EXISTS is just an untranslated string for the language you are using. It would normally just say Error - The File Already Exists" The first thing to do would be to check the Extensions Manager under Templates and make sure the Template you are installing has been removed from that list.

Following that navigate to your FTP > Templates folder and make sure any older files related to the Template are removed manually as well. From there you should be able to install the Template without any issues. If not you may have something wrong with the database of your site that would need to be addressed. Often times when this error occurs the Template will still have installed correctly so just double check that as well.
