: Only Homepage displays; no other page created can be found
: Game_Decod April 24, 2014, 10:42:22 AM
I have recently had to go back and rebuild my website essentially from scratch... removed all files from my server, deleted all databases, etc.  I have reinstalled Joomla! v. 3.2.3 on my server, created a new database and begun rebuilding my site (www.gamingdecoded.com).  So far I have created various Articles & Categories linked to my Main Menu, and created a Contact Us page and so forth.  The problem I seem to be having is that the site's Homepage is the ONLY page that will display on the front end, but no other page I click a link for will display.  Instead I get the classic error:

Not Found

The requested URL /store was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I don't know why this is occurring.  Images I've set the path for in the settings all appear correctly, but none of the other pages that do exist on my server will appear other than the Homepage.

Thanks for any assistance.

Hello,

If you have enabled SEF make sure you have renamed htaccess.txt to .htaccess. That's the most common cause for 404 errors. You can also try turning off SEF in the global configuration to confirm that's the issue in the first place.

Thanks for the reply.  Checking back in the root of my server, I see that I have 3 total files relating to .htaccess.  They are:

1) .htaccess
2) htaccess.txt
3) .htaccess.bak.1398197368

What do I do in this instance?  I know you said I need to rename the htaccess.txt file to .htaccess, but it appears I already have both of these files existing on my server, plus an apparent backup file of the .htaccess file.

But I did try turning off the SEF URLs option in the Global Configuration and the other pages on my site does load, so that was the issue, but I do want the SEF URLs option to be turned on.  I have an extension (WordPress for Joomla!) that I need to use for the blog portion of my site that requires SEF URLs to be enabled to work properly.  With the 3 files that I have on the server already, what do I need to do to correct the issue so my pages display and still have the SEF URLs turned on.

Thanks again.

Hello,

Something or someone changed your htaccess files if you have that many on the server. I would suggest removing all three, download a fresh Joomla install and copy over a fresh htaccess.txt file and then rename that one to .htaccess to ensure you have the right one.
