: Off Canvas Menu Upgrades Please

I notice that the latest template by Shape5 (Corpway) uses an off canvas accordion menu for mobile devices. This is a really great addition to your templates, which I hope will be used on future templates also. I've always found that the tree menu provided with previous responsive templates was not very usable or attractive for sites with alot of sub menus. So now that Shape5 is finally using off canvas accordion menus, it would be really good if you also upgraded, your previous responsive templates with these also.

You have so many great templates that hold up well against the competition,  except for the fact that they contain this horrible tree menu. This has led me to join one or two other clubs that have been offering off canvas accordions for a while. From a sales point of view, I think a lot more people would join Shape5, if this essential feature was available on all its responsive templates.

With Helion for example I have had to remove the drop down tree and implement my own accordion menu as a module that appears on mobiles only Because of this need to replace the tree on every Shape5 template I have stopped using any of the Shape5 template's on of my new sites. Even though they look great on desktops, sites just can't afford to be lacking in mobile functionality these days.

So I would ask you as a favor to all your customers and as a way of bringing many lapsed customers back into Shape5 (via an email blast notifying of the upgrade for example) please fit all you responsive templates, (both Joomla and Wordpress) with the latest off canvas accordion menu. Perhaps it would be possible to create one off canvas menu upgrade file and add it to the download areas of all templates.

It would be a real shame if so many of Shape5's attractive and function templates are allowed to remain obsolete due to an out of date user friendly mobile menu system.

Hello,

Thanks for the feedback. The new sidebar menu can be applied to any of the previous Vertex templates by patching to Vertex 3.6 as described here:

http://www.shape5.com/blog/Vertex-3.6-Has-Been-Released.html

It's just a matter of upgrading to Vertex 3.6 and selecting the new layout.

We have discussed possibly integrating this into some of the live demos, as well. The wordpress version is still be integrating, but shouldn't be much longer.

That's great news.

Thanks.

So, this looks like a really good step. I've been looking for a decent "off canvas" menu for mobile templates for a long time, so I'm really happy to see this added in this version of Virtex.

I am having one issue though: I was able to select the "sidebar layout" option as you explained, however, none of the sub menu items are available. I would have expected them to be expanded, but they aren't. Is there another option somewhere that I am not finding?

I am using Joomla 3.3.3 and Virtex 3.6 on the Prestige Academy template.

Hello,

Please post under the Prestige Academy board with a url to your site so we can debug it from there. Thank you.

Hello,

I just checked this on "Soul Search" and have the exact same issue on that template as well, so it's not a template specific issue. I am working on an internal server and unable to provide access. It should be quite apparent from your site shaper installs since the only things that has been done is upgrade to the most current version of Joomla and the Virtex patch.

Hello,

Please post your question directly in the forum for the Template you are using. I tested a few installations locally and wasn't experiencing any issues. We will also need back end Super User and FTP access to take a closer look.

As I stated earlier quite clearly ... I am working on an internal server and access is NOT POSSIBLE.
Additionally, I mentioned two templates that I have checked and it doesn't work on either of them THEREFORE it is NOT template specific.

Please at least read my post before you shuffle me off to somewhere else.

Hello,

I did read your post and the ones before it, this still doesn't change the fact that I would need access to your site/server to debug the issue as I cannot replicate it locally or live in our downloads.

Sorry for any inconvenience

AND I WILL TELL YOU AGAIN IN ENGLISH!!
THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE UNLESS YOU WANT TO DRIVE TO MY OFFICE TO GET ACCESS

How much more clear do I have to be?

Check the templates I posted. THE EXACT TEMPLATES  not some random crap.
INSTALL THEM THE SAME WAY you expect us to and then upgrade the SAME WAY we have to and you will SEE what I am talking about.

Hello,

Firstly, posting in CAPS is against our forum policy, so regardless of how much you want to yell please refrain from doing so.

I have already done everything outlined in your description but in those scenarios everything was working on my end. If you aren't able to upload the site to a temporary server for me to look into it further there isn't really much else I can do at this point. You might have a corrupted file, missing line of code etc, none of which I could know without taking a closer look.

Kind Regards,

I'm getting quite used to this level of competence and support. No wonder Caps are against the rules.

Your products are largely superior to most I have seen - but when it comes to actually fixing something or resolving an issue, you don't seem to be able to do anything without me giving you the keys to the kingdom which will never happen - not for you or anyone else. Not today, tomorrow or ever.

Hello,

I am sorry then but this is how forum support works when the issue requires site level access. This hasn't been an issue for any of our members before and I deal with hundreds of Joomla/FTP accounts every month. The issue is not incompetence on our end as we have always offered to help you fix your issues. The problem is that fixing your issues can't be done without seeing the file structure of your site to determine why it differs from our installations.

Any details you send are kept private and deleted once the issue is resolved. I have also sent an email to a couple of our other Admins to see if they can replicate it on their systems. If you have any more information to replicate the issue that would also be helpful.

Kind Regards,

Hello,

Sorry for the frustration you are having.  Just read this thread and saw the back and forth and since there is no way to take a first hand look would you be able to post some screenshots of exactly what you are seeing?  That should help us get a better idea whats going on.

Thanks!

It's an off canvas menu right?
It should expand the sub menu items right?
It doesn't.

My simple question to begin this whole thing was "is there another setting somewhere in the vertex configuration that I need to tick to cause it to expand the sub items?

This issue recurs on at least two templates that I have checked and since I am working on an internal server, access is not possible. NO matter how much anyone insists they need that access, it is not going to happen - because - it.is.not.possible.

No you shouldn't need to turn on any setting to show sub menu items.  They should show if you have sub menu items on your menu

I have attached a screenshot of an admin of a template with our settings for the off canvas menu.  If you set it up like this it should work.  Let me know if you still are having issues.

With the settings Jonah posted above this is the result of my copy locally. (See Attached)

Be sure that if your top level menu links are setup as links to other pages that you click the arrow not the text itself. The arrow will expand the subs and the text will take you to the redirected page.

Hope this helps.

I have replicated all of the settings and nothing happens. The sub menus will not expand. I attempt to click on the arrow and it looks like the menu flashes (as if it is trying to expand) but nothing is happening.

I have also tried turning off anything that might be a possible conflict with jquery: thinking that might account for it, but so far, nothing. Very frustrating. It's going to end up being something stupid, but for the life of me, I can't figure it out.

Alright,

Let us know if you find out anything. Unfortunately as we have both tested this on our end and its working there isn't anything else we can do to assist you until we can physically see the issue live.
