PARTIALLY RESOLVED THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR!

I'm getting through the learning curve pretty well and am enjoying the Oasis template for a family and local history site.  The sandbox is at http://migration.tnhillbillie.net/

The biggest hurdle I'm facing right now is that some content is not displaying.

For example, if you click on the first item in the "Newest Content" module on my front page (view early queries), it takes you to a blank page.  I checked the article content -- it had been migrated using the JUpgradePro component -- and it is present.  However, even the page source appears blank.  See http://migration.tnhillbillie.net/index.php/research-assistance/networking/41-queries/42-early-queries-posted-to-this-site

I thought at first it was because the links were hosed because the item ID's carried over from J1.5/6/7 were in the paths.   But, other links in that listing work just fine.

That may not be a template-specific issue (I've been doing too much WordPress where templates can break everything), but I hope someone can help me resolve this issue.  It's the only thing preventing me from bringing my site back on-line after nearly 6 months' down.

And, I have other sites to convert.  For that reason, I'm extremely grateful to Shape5 support...

RESOLVED ISSUES:

UPDATE:  I fixed the problems with gray pages and with the Live Search's not working correctly.  The problem was the BlueGroup template was set as default, but it was not assigned to any menu items.  The Oasis template was assigned to every menu item.

When I click on articles from the Newest Content and Popular Content modules on the front page (using the default Joomla "Latest News" and "Most Read" modules), the phrase header-menu is inserted into the path.

UPDATE:  I went into the database tables and did a search for the phrase header-menu.  It was set as a funky default for something, and it was assigned to some of the content somehow.  I don't know how that happened, but now I know what to look for if links don't work.

Also, I suddenly can no longer view the template positions by clicking on the little preview icon in the Template Manager.  The path is http://migration.tnhillbillie.net/index.php?tp=1&templateStyle=10

UPDATE:  See above.

If you click on a date on the Events Calendar (JEvents) on the home page, an all-gray window appears.  The same thing happens if you click in the menu on the item Records & Resources under Research Assistance...or News...

I tested those pages and they all seemed to be working on my end. Maybe try clearing your cache?

I did a view page source on one of the gray pages and discovered it is trying to pull the BlueGroup template that I installed but chose not to use.  When I looked at the BlueGroup template settings in the Template Manager, I discovered it's set for Default for All pages, though not assigned to any menu items.  I can't turn that default off.  See the screen capture.  Can I just delete the template using FTP?

You can uninstall Templates you no longer need via the Extension Manager. Just do a search for the Template Name and hit Uninstall. Make sure that you have another Template set as "active" or it won't let you delete the last style.

When I click on articles from the Newest Content and Popular Content modules on the front page (using the default Joomla "Latest News" and "Most Read" modules), the phrase header-menu is inserted into the path.

Those would all be controlled via the Menu Item Alias fields that you specify in the back end of Joomla.

Also, I suddenly can no longer view the template positions by clicking on the little preview icon in the Template Manager.  The path is http://migration.tnhillbillie.net/index.php?tp=1&templateStyle=10

You shouldn't need to use that page. Just check here for the entire layout and module styles overview.

Thanks, Mike.  I saw your reply after I posted my updates.  The perils of mobile device displays...

I'm almost there -- yay!

Well, I still haven't figured out the blank page issue at http://migration.tnhillbillie.net/index.php/research-assistance/networking/41-queries/42-early-queries-posted-to-this-site

In theory, I should get either a 404 page or, at least, the Oasis template.  But, it's just blank.  Yet, the content appears properly in the backend.

Hello,

From what I can tell the page is timing out and not loading anything due to this. You can see the page tries to load for about 10-15 seconds and attempts to pull from your domain but it seems like its returning nothing from the server.

That may be an issue with permissions, url redirection or even an extension. I would check those things first.

REgards,

Thanks.  I didn't get the timing out alert.  I'll work at it from that angle.
