In the Template Manager under General make sure the "Hide Component On Pages" isn't checked off for the Home Menu Item. For the text being cut off that sounds like an issue with your Extensions margins settings. I have nothing called "Hide Component On Pages" in Template manager. Template manager............metroshows..............Vertex...........General..........and there is nothing about "Hide Component On Pages".
