: Can't change theme options, adds question marks to values???
: veggie89 February 06, 2015, 06:40:04 PM
Every time I try to change any theme options under Appearance>S5 Theme Options the entire site gets screwed up and I get these question marks in the values fields:

P.S. I have checked to make sure my server PHP settings have 'Multibyte String : mbstring.encoding_translation' turned off.

That may be a problem caused by changes that have been made in core WP function in the 4+ years since the theme was released.

Touch of Soul was released before the Vertex framework was developed; unfortunately, pre-framework releases can no longer be updated due to significant changes in how WordPress works.  I would suggest looking at more recent releases to see if there's something newer that you can be happy updating to.  The first Vertex release was Paradigm Shift, and the first responsive release was Business Response.  I personally recommend not using anything older than Business Response, but that is mainly because the pre-responsive releases that use Vertex will need to be patched with the Vertex Upgrade Patch (http://www.shape5.com/component/option,com_docman/Itemid,96/task,cat_view/gid,308) before they are fully compatible with the latest version of WordPress.

I just spent $42.49 on a membership specifically so I could download THIS theme. Then I spent hours working on a transferring all my data from my old site, and now you tell me, "We don't support this theme anymore." This is not right. I'm not asking you to add new features, I'm asking you to make it functional.
I understand your position, and that it will take time and resources away from developing new themes, but you either need to start dropping these themes off of your site, or (The more cost effective route) put a developer on keeping them usable with current versions of WordPress. The one thing you cannot do is lie to your customers by saying "we have all these themes available" without so much as a disclaimer saying that they are unusable with any reasonably secure version of WordPress.
As for my specific case, I ask that you either fix this theme and start providing the support you promised, or refund my purchase. Thank You.

While I definitely understand your frustration, you are the first member to have the specific problem you have mentioned, and while very few people even look at the older releases, there are enough who do that one of the others would probably have said something if the issue wasn't server-related.  If you PM me FTP access and WP login details, I can take a look at it for you.

Are you sure you wouldn't be interested in using a design that isn't so outdated?  There are a few newer releases that meet an almost identical design theme while also being on the framework, which means that any updates necessary are being made constantly and are readily available as a Vertex Upgrade Patch (http://www.shape5.com/component/option,com_docman/Itemid,96/task,cat_view/gid,308).

The issue on your site has been fixed, as have the other code changes you mentioned in the other thread you started.
