: RSS Feed button [SOLVED] : drobuddy February 01, 2009, 06:00:26 PM So, the 404 error has already been commented on by at least one other person, but I have a few questions that I have yet to see:
1.) Why would you link to an extension that isn't even available anymore (at least, for J! 1.5) ? 2.) Wouldn't it make more sense to have made this configurable in the back-end template admin? 3.) Instead of using Joomla! 1.0's component, com_rss, do you have any other recommendations to use with 1.5? 4.) (If applicable) Have you used the Breast Cancer Awareness RSS Feed extension for Joomla 1.5? If so, what's your thoughts on using it with this template? http://www.bodyhealthdebate.co.uk/breast-cancer-awareness-rss-syndicator-joomla (http://www.bodyhealthdebate.co.uk/breast-cancer-awareness-rss-syndicator-joomla) Thank you for your time and assistance with this matter. : Re: RSS Feed button [SOLVED] : drobuddy February 01, 2009, 06:21:57 PM Okay, so this is how I took care of it... Download the RSS Syndicator component from the link mentioned above; install it and then go to Components > BCA RSS Syndicator (or whatever it's actually called in the menu) > Default Settings and make any necessary changes (Or, you can do as I did, and leave it all default settings). Next, go to the Feed Manager portion (whatever it's called; the place to create new feeds). Select "New" and fill in the fields to create a new RSS 2.0 Feed and name it default. When you're done click "Save." Now, Joomla! will reload the screen and show your new "default" rss feed which is ready for publishing. Simply right-click on the link and select "Copy" or "Copy Link Location". Now, we can edit our index.php page to fix the links for "My Homepage" and "Rss" at the same time (I'm all about efficiency)! Go to Extensions > Template Manager > City Portal > Edit HTML and search for "s5_homepage" which will take you to the appropriate portion of the index.php file. Look for the link to "My Homepage" (the second <div>) and modify the first argument so it has your site's name. Now, edit the <div> directly below it, that has something similar to <?php $liveSiteUrl; ?>/index.php?option=com_rss&task=something&id=1. Highlight everything after the <?php $liveSiteUrl; ?> and paste in your url that we copied in step 3. The new URL you just pasted in will still contain http://www.mysite.com/index.php?option=com_bca-rss-syndicator&task.... Delete everything BEFORE the /index.php (do not delete the forward slash or the link will not work). So, when you are done editing the RSS portion, it should look like "<?php $liveSiteUrl; ?>/index.php?option=com_bca-rss-syndicator&task=something&id=1". Finally, click "Save" at the top-right of the screen and you are now good to go! Now, you should have your "My Homepage" and RSS links set up properly. To make sure, visit your homepage and try 'em out... Everything should work fine; if it doesn't post your errors here and I'll do what I can to help. Peace! : Re: RSS Feed button [SOLVED] : murdok51 February 02, 2009, 11:54:56 AM Thanks! for the information! it does work... first time trying RSS so i was kind of afraid about it, and was about to remove that button.

Thanks for sharing. : Re: RSS Feed button [SOLVED] : ccvid July 13, 2009, 10:30:22 PM Thank you so much for the help on changing the website name (under the "Make My Homepage" link) and setting up the RSS feed. The feed still sets up the same too, even though the breast cancer awareness component is now the Ninja Rss Syndicator.
Ben : Re: RSS Feed button [SOLVED] : ksstudio July 23, 2009, 10:22:33 AM Can Shape5 release an update of City Portal templates to fix this issue?
: Re: RSS Feed button [SOLVED] : krispin August 23, 2009, 12:34:26 AM Great instructions but I am still getting the old feed when I click on the RSS button.
I cleared the site cache and my browser cache and I am still picking up the old feed. yet when I go into the template the new feed is there? Any ideas? Cheers, Krispin : Re: RSS Feed button [SOLVED] : krispin August 30, 2009, 12:58:39 PM Just wondering if anyone might have a solution for me.
I did as explained above but the RSS link still does not work. I addition I would like to know how to get the RSS fee icon in the URL field to work. Cheers, Keith |
