How can you set cache validators for the fonts and template ?
And leverage browser caching for fonts and template resources ?

The rest is covered, these are the only items left.

Hello,

In regards to Google Fonts it is pulled directly from their servers so you would need to set up the files on your server first. There is a good tutorial here:

https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-cache-google-fonts

You can also enable Cache under the System Tab in the back end of Joomla.

Hi,

I am talking about caching some particulair files of the template and Google fonts.

Thanks for the tutorial how to place them on your own server.
That would have been most likely the next question :)

Do a test of any website, click the recommendation on leverage browser caching and validation and you see what I mean.

You need to place them in your htacces.
Dunno how exactly how for the files that are mentioned after the test.

Trying to get yslow a bit higher. It is with most joomla sites not more then grade B of C. You have to try some things out .
Pagespeed is most of the times ok.

Also got the feeling that the latest joomla version is a bit heavier and slower.

Hello,

I have usually just done changes via HTAccess and used the built in GZip Caching/Compression. I was able to get A- and A+ with those tools using some tweaks, but most of the changes were done via the htaccess file. Here are some links I used:

http://magazine.joomla.org/issues/issue-mar-2011/item/347-Increase-your-sites-speed-dramatically
http://magazine.joomla.org/issues/issue-june-2012/item/787-htaccess-File-That-FREAKIN-Works

If you take some of the parts from each and combine them your scores will go up dramatically.

If it is ok with you I like to compare your htacces with mine to see if I,m missing something. The one I use give me better result then the one from the linked article. Tried that one a while ago.

I see Joomla is going into the right direction since a while. It was not improved for quit a while again. Now also for end users it becomes more friendly. Reason why lots of designers switched to WP. Let see what more improvements are also heading our way in the future updates.

Hello,

Does it matter which Template? I will try and get the highest score on those metrics and send you my htaccess.

I think the files are quite simulair, doesn't matter which one. One of the latest will be fine.  Thx !

Hi Mike,

Purchased JCH Optimize pro version and did some testing with it,

In the template the compression off and used the plugin

Was working on the Spectrum template, started from a pagesize of 1,44 mb reduced it to 662 kb
Loading time from 5,06 sec.  to under 3 sec. and reduced the request from 52 to 22. See image...  Did nothing on the layout itself, only tweaking.

All still working fine, in all browsers, maybe it can improved more but experienced some problems with the image in the iacf. So gonna leave it like this.. it is a acceptable score for this kind of homepage with several scripts. and an iacf.

However I noticed the improved .htacces did not speed up much more using the plugin.
Best 10 $ ever spend :)

Awesome results,

I am still going to see if I can get As in both categories but Joomla has some limitations for this just from the CMS files. I will post my results here soon.
