Hi S5,
I had our website all set and functioning with the background image set to scale "100% auto", the background color set to an off-white and using a modified S5_bottom_bg image to match our styling.
While fixing another issue (having a nav menu link open a new tab) i found out I needed to apply the "Vertex Patch". I applied the patch and it worked for the link issue but now the "Background Image Size Option" settings from the "Background " tab are not being applied to the Body background image. I needed to take our site live and had to come up with a fix so I hard coded it into the CSS for the background image scaling. Unfortunately I am not able to completely adjust the rest of the settings within the CSS.  You can see here on a demo site I set up to demonstrate the problem http://redcommunicationsllc.com/stairway/ (http://redcommunicationsllc.com/stairway/) This is a clean install of the theme with the only changes being the background image and the Vertex Patch being applied.
I will try and explain the different ways that I have tried to fix this new issue:

• I have tried to revert back to the demo content set up using the "Header Background Image" on the "Template Specific" tab like the demo content has it. But if I change the Background color to a new color the S5_bottom_bg image is not displayed. I know the theme is built this way, but we are using this image.
• I tried setting the background color in the CSS but this removes the S5_bottom_bg image also.

Can you help with why the Vertex Patch caused this issue to happen?

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying is wrong with your site; I'm a programmer, not a designer, and the links you provided both look fine to me.  I'll pass this thread on to one of the designers, maybe he'll have a better understanding of what the problem is.

I'm sorry. I was trying to be thorough with my description and that was probably too long of an explanation.
After I applied the Vertex Patch to the site the "Main Body Background settings" in the "Backgrounds" Tab of the Theme Options no longer work. The background image should scale when the browser window is resized. Since I am not able to use the settings in the "Backgrounds" tab the live site is using the "Template Specific" settings that can not be changed because some default settings of the theme are removed. If you look at the demo site http://redcommunicationsllc.com/stairway/  (http://redcommunicationsllc.com/stairway/) you will see that the settings are not being applied to the background image correctly.
