: Map It With Google not working in Joomla 3.4
: stargazer1 July 22, 2015, 10:18:04 AM
I'm working on a test site to upgrade Joomla from 2.5 to 3.4.  I'm using the same GavickPro template/package as I am the 2.5 site, and yet for some reason I'm having difficulty getting the S5 Map It with Google module to work properly.  When it appears, the formatting has been skewed from it's settings in the 2.5 site; which I think I may have resolved; however the second, and more pressing problem, is the fact that the modules keep disappearing, and most of the time it won't show up at all.  I've removed and created the modules fresh several times now; and have tried other module positions. but they're not appearing to being with now.
I'm using GavickPro Storebox in Joomla 3.4; just as the 2.5 site does (just in this case their Joomla 3.x package) and on the 2.5 site S5 Map It works without any major issue, but I don't know why it's not working with Joomla 3.4.

What I ended up doing was using a Custom HTML module to sort of rebuild it from scratch.  Creating a 1 cell x 2 cell table the combined width of both objects, I switched to the HTML view, where I pasted the embedding code for the map straight from Google Maps for the first cell of the table.  In the second cell, I pasted the code for the form, which i grabbed from the old site, using the Inspect Element tool in Chrome.  Putting them next to each other like that, in the same Custom HTML module was the only way I could get them to line up side by side with each other.  Neither Shape5 or Gavick Pro could help identify the problem, though Gavick was much worse offering "help".  It was like pulling teeth just to get them to agree to even look at anything, and then they got snarky and didn't really offer any insight....

Hello,

Would you be able to post a URL where this occurs? It could be some sort of JavaScript conflict as we use this module on our demo's running Joomla 3.4 every month.  For example our lastest template has it running here at the bottom of the page:

http://www.shape5.com/demo/samba_spa/index.php/pages/contact-us

Thanks,

Wait!!

Never mind it is working! I had set it up in my sidebar and realized I needed to add a height to the map for it to show up. Once I did that it worked fine.

Also incase anyone else has this issue I found that the demo map was published to the same page as the map I tried to create in my sidebar module position and having two map modules on the same page also breaks both. So as soon as I only had one map module published and set a height to my published map all is well.

Thank you Jonahh for jumping in to help!

The MapIt with Google modules isn't working for me at all on Joomla 3.4.4.

With version 1 (directions form) the text color  is the same as the field background so I can't see the text. If I type it in (blindly) and press enter, a window with map and directions does pop up.

With version 2 (map) the marker doesn't appear so the location isn't pointed out on the map, and there is no way I've found to ask for directions.

This is with the S5 Forte template. I have disabled JCE Editor and J-Events modules in case there was a conflict with either of them. I have no other modules that weren't in the Forte Site Shaper.

By the way I love the Forte template! I'm using it for a new site even though I'm an S5 member. Great work, though there are a few glitches.

Hello,

Can you post a URL of this?

I found that in the form it does work with the -gray style, but not with any other.

I still don't have it working with the map. http://dsbach.com/index.php/198-location

There is still no marker and therefore no way to get directions.

I removed the "marker.png" and it shows the default map marker now so you can click and get directions

Thank you, Jonah! Yes, it works now with the map.

Still using version 1 (the form for directions) the only way I can get the typed-in text to show up is using the module class suffix -gray. The other classes don't show focus on a field and don't allow the text to be visible. If one types blindly and correctly, then the form is correctly submitted.

This module did work with the module class -inset in earlier versions of Joomla - another site using Design Control used to work, but doesn't now for any other module class than -gray.

Hello,

I updated Joomla to 3.4 and s5 Map It stopped working.  Here is the url.  www.edwardharrelson.com

I should also note that I'm using the most current version of Firefox on MacBook Pro and Safari.  It doesn't load on Windows 10 PC in any brower, Firefox, IE, Chrome.  The map does load on my iPad Air 2 using Safari.

Can you please help?

Thanks!

I'm not shape5 help, but it seems everything is working on your site. An idea: did you leave the "Text for get directions link" blank when you set up the module?

The button does link to Google maps, but there is no text associated with it.

My only idea on this. Hope it helps.

Thank you for the suggestion.  I added the text "Directions" but the problem I'm having still exists. The marker shows up but the map never loads.

Hmm I am not sure why the map isn't showing properly.  Would you be able to PM me Joomla login details so I can take a closer look?

Thanks,

Same issue, I am glad you posted the problem.
adding extra parameters solve the problem many times, but with your post I didn't had to play around.

Fixed problem with smooth pace.

Thanks to you and Awesome Jonahh!
