The javascript error in your second screenshot is fixed in the Vertex Upgrade Patch (http://www.shape5.com/component/option,com_docman/Itemid,96/task,cat_view/gid,308). My guess would be that you need to either add a widget to the "S5 Box - Login" position, or you need to disable the Login/Logout/Register positions in the theme options.
