I am trying to configure my sites front page to have the same modules that you have but I am having issues trying to make the white box (remnant of the featured articles container) disappear and to then configure any of the modules that you have shown. Can you please advise of the settings for each of the 4 modules you have on the site (Welcome, drop me a line, what I have been up to and Random from my portfolio)? In regards to the white box showing near the bottom, this can be hidden by going to your "hide component area" in the Vertex admin. Make sure the home menu item is selected and save. As for the module settings I have attached a screenshot for the news display module so you can see our settings.
