: Excessive 404 page hits...on Joomla/Corpway site
: bollinger February 11, 2016, 10:22:59 AM
Hi,

We have built a site that does not seem to have excessive broken links (maybe a few, like any project), or anything that might direct to a 404...yet, the 404 page count seems to be going up very rapidly. At this point, there is a 404 count in the range of 25k (see attachment) which is perplexing and disturbing. We are worried that if we launch the site with this many 404's being thrown, it will effect our SEO. :( We use a program called site improve to locate any broken links, and things seems to be well under control in that department. We are confused...

Our IT guys are suspicious that 'other' assets might be throwing the 404 error...for example if an image is moved, or renamed? Have there been any other client issues related to the Corpway template and 404 errors that might lead to a solution? We are desperate! Help please!

Any info you can provide, would be greatly appreciated.

Matthew

Hello,

A 404 error is triggered when someone tries to load a page that isn't there, a template doesn't control any of that. I guess it's possible that you have a bot that is trying to hit those pages. Your host might be able to provide some kind of log as to what urls are trying to be reached.
