: Weather not updating feed content. Yahoo requiring OAuth.
: afassas April 12, 2016, 10:23:17 PM
I have the Shape5 S5 Weather module installed with Joomla 3.4.8.  I have just begun noticing that the weather report is not for the current day and future 3 days, as configured.  This module has worked well for several years on this website installation.

I took notice of this issue on the morning of 4/12/16.  Now it is after midnight on 4/13/16.  There has been no change in the weather forecast displayed.

I have deleted the weather.12775307.xml file.  This file is downloaded with a fresh date/time stamp when the webpage is requested.  The data in the .xml file is the same from this morning through to after midnight and is timestamped inside the .xml file as 4/10/16 9:34 EDT.

Is there a change with the Yahoo weather feed or a failure of a Yahoo service?  Can anyone shed some light on this please.

UPDATE:  4/15/2016 The S5_weather module returns no weather data at all.  No weather.12775307.xml file is created at all now.  The Yahoo URL API is not giving a valid response.

Alex

Hello Alex,

I do see the issue on our demo's too. I'm not sure of a fix that we can do at this time. It appears to be an issue with Yahoo and they need to fix it. I found the thread with others having the same issue here:

Upon a little more investigation, it appears that Yahoo is and has been transitioning their use of their API's to a OAuth model.  Yahoo's own documentation available at https://developer.yahoo.com/weather/documentation.html is not yet updated to show examples and usage of the OAuth within their own weather API's.  If the S5_Weather module is something that Shape 5 wants to continue to offer as a working module, it may be time to put some resources into updating the module for Yahoo's new API model or at least confirm if the old API URL for providing the RSS (XML) weather feed is temporarily broken or gone forever.

Additional information from Yahoo Developer Network supporting the change to OAuth for their Weather API product.  Please refer to these links for further information:
The RANT  https://developer.yahoo.com/forums/#/discussion/7924/yahoo-weather-api-switching-from-public-to-oauth-from-march-15-2016  (https://developer.yahoo.com/forums/#/discussion/7924/yahoo-weather-api-switching-from-public-to-oauth-from-march-15-2016)

The OAuth forum https://developer.yahoo.com/forums/#/categories/oauth-and-openid (https://developer.yahoo.com/forums/#/categories/oauth-and-openid)

This appears to be a developing part of Yahoo's move to allow APP and WebAPP creation, which requires OAuth.  Their documentation for their own products is not being updated as fast as the delivery and change of the existing product.  The lack of currently updated documentation is something I would expect from a much smaller company, but not Yahoo.

Ok this now fixed and the download updated. Please grab a fresh copy and reinstall. It also now can work off city and state along with the Where On Earth Identifiers(WOEID) method, so you can choose whichever method you prefer.

There is a strange issue with the new version. For some reason the installation of it kills white colour in the footer. It's fine with me, but I thought I should let you know.
