: Unable to access template backend
: firststate January 20, 2017, 07:41:19 PM
I recently noticed that I am unable to access the template backend. Please see the screenshot.

I am running Joomla 3.6.5, Vertex 4.1 and Corporate Response template.

I re-installed Vertex 4.1 and cleared browser cache per another thread, but it did not work.

Any suggestions?

I have since installed a newer template (Big Business) and tested to see if I could access the template backend, but the same issues are still occurring with all Shape5 templates, so I am assuming this is a Vertex issue.

I have tested on multiple browsers (Chrome and Firefox) with cleared cache, but the issues are still occurring.

Hello,

This issue occurs when you have Cloudflare enabled on your server because it manipulates the javascript. It should not be loaded in the administrator area of your site, so you will need to disable it there or disable altogether.

That did it. Thanks!

I just experienced the same issue upgrading Vertex framework from 3.6 to 4.1 with the site shaper installation of Corpway I installed back in 2014.  I backed up my site, then used FTP to upgrade the files in my template folder.  Upon logging back in to the admin area after clearing my cache, the template configuration page would open but it was blank, empty boxes with no text in them, just like in the OP's message.  The attached file shows this.

I restored from my site backup (thank you Akeeba backup!) and then read your instructions more closely.  This time, I disabled my Cloudflare and reinstalled the new files.  Then cleared the cache, went back in, and now the template config page opened without any trouble.  As soon as I re-enabled Cloudflare though I could no longer access the configuration page and it went back to a blank page with boxes but no text.  In order to use both Cloudflare and Vertex, it seems that you have to create a rule that specifically disabled the "performance" features for the Joomla backend.  The rule that worked for me looked like the second attached file.

I hope this saves somebody else some time.  I sure do like having scripts and templates up to date and I am very pleased with the longevity of my Shape 5 template.

Regards,
Glen

Hello,

Thanks for the details and screenshot, hopefully that helps other users in the future. Glad you got it working! Cloudflare has a lot of good features, but unfortunately it manipulates javascript and caches javascript variables (so even if the admin could load, nothing could actually update), which causes issues with admin scripts. It really shouldn't be loaded in the admin area at all, it's meant for performance on the frontend.

Thank you very much for all these valuable tips. They helped me a lot. I would also point out that the rules for Cloudflare must be set up on the Cloudflare website (www. Cloudflare.com).

It seems obvious. It was not for me.  ;)
