Is there anyway for me to override the image being displayed base on what category of article it is displaying? Unfortunately without custom coding there isn't a way to do this. The only other way to do it would be to copy the template and assign it to a menu item. Then in this copy of the template change the background URL. Then for that specific menu item this copy will be used which has a different background URL. It worked.

You could make a copy for each new page you wanted to change the background on.
