: Any newbies guide for editing Gamevision?
: freeadvise October 26, 2009, 07:11:47 PM
Hi All,
I got excited with the gamevision template and have tried to customize it but have some difficulty. I tried to follow the tutorial on gamevision online but succeeded only in the one that talks about background header replacement.
After that, every other info on the tutorial only speaks of what CAN be done and not  HOW to do it. The information assumes the reader is already familiar with programing (except the instruction about changing background).

Can anyone help me with answers to these questions.
1. Out of the 7 items downloadable for gamevision, do i have to download ALL 7 and upload to my server or which ones are sufficient to customize.
2. Which folders should i load them to in Joomla?
3. Where do i go to choose and activate the layout style out of the many available options?
4. If i dont want the black background of the body, where do i change that?
5. I only see 'Home' on the frontpage how about other menu items?
6.How do i replace the 'gamevision' logo on the front page  and in fact that word 'frontpage'
7. The homepage takes some time to load....'initializing'.....is there a way to speed the loading up?

Forgive me if these questions are too simple. But they are the felt-needs of users (at least the newbies).
Note that i have searched the forum and couldnt really get the right answers (you may point them to me please if they have already been posted).

Thnks

Hello,

To answer your questions:

1. You will def need the template.  If you want the horizontal login module then you'll need to install this.  The SQL dump is if you want your site to be setup just like the demo minus the images.  You'd need to import this via your phpmyadmin.

2. You install the template into Joomla as well as with the horiztonal module.

3.  This is all controlled by Joomla itself, perhaps uploading the MySQL dump will help you out a lot as it will get your site looking like the demo.

4.  You can change this via the template parameters area of your site login into Joomla once the template is installed and navigate to extensions > template manager > select game vision and click edit.

5. I'm not sure what exactly you mean by this, if you want other menu items you have to create them in the backend of Joomla.

6. The logo is located:
templates/gamevision/images/logo.png

You can change the frontpage text by opening up your home menu item in the menu manager area and on the right hand side under parameters change it to whatever you desire.

7. No there isn't but you can turn the page loader off if you desire in the template parameters area.

Hope this helps!

Regards,

Thanks a lot for carefully replying to my 'novice' questions.
I have successfully installed the template, made some modifications on the image and logo.
I also installed the mod_s5_horizontal_login_15 in the modules section on joomla.
I tried uploading and installing the Shape5_GameVision_SQL_15 but got this error

        * Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package.
Path does not have a valid package.

Maybe i am trying to do the wrong thing. Pls how do i load the SQL file?

Secondly, I want to change the main body background color to white but couldnt know what file to change.
Please see the site at

I look forward to your kind response.
Thanks

To upload the SQL dump follow these steps:

    * Login to your phpmyadmin via cpanel or another server database admin panel.
    * Navigate to the database your Joomla install is using
    * Select all tables and drop them. (NOTE: This will delete all your website data on this current Joomla install)
    * Next, click import and import the SQL dump we provide
    * Now you are done, just login via your Joomla admin with username=admin and password=admin

The body background color can be changed via the template parameters area.

Regards,
