When the Frontpage Display is loading the image file names are displaying, which are not the best things for users to see.

Is there a way to attach image "alt" text to the images used in the Frontpage Display module and the boxes below the display?

You can add the alt tags in the file mod_s5_frontpage_display2.php ...which you can find in the frontpage display 2 folder, in the modules directory. Open the php file with an editor and go to lines 322-357. Add your text in the alt area between the " ", then save and upload! Hope this helped.

I need to add "alt" text on boxes so following previous recommandations I can't just to do it only because the file has no more than 187 lines.
I am using the joomla 1.5 version.
Let me know. Thanks.
