Dropdown cart drops down including category icons whenever some puts anything in the cart. Have a look at:
http://www.koala.net/index.php/component/option,com_virtuemart/Itemid,969/category_id,15/page,shop.browse/

any advice welcome.

Hi,

You need to disable to popup through virtuemart config, as the cart handles showing an item is added Smiley

Thanks. That sounds logical, but I just can't find the setting.  Sorry not to know even that much. Huh

You'll see it in there

Ok im sorry I just looked at "jleckenby's" response and not at your original post.  So it sounds like you are seeing the category items in your cart after doing an add to cart?

If so redownload the drop down cart.  It was updated in Shopper Frenzy but I don't believe the etensity download had this file included.  shop.s5_dropdown.php.  Its in there now.  Grab that and place below in your site:

/administrator/components/com_virtuemart/html/shop.s5_dropdown.php
