Hello,

My name is Marcel and I'm from the netherlands.

I've ran out of ideas how to get my aluma photography properly installed. I've done a dozen things to get it right, but nothing works.

My website is www.pictjur.nl

My provider is Strato. and they provide the latest version (for them) of Joomla (version 1.5.23-4). You can choose from their menu to have Joomla installed including a mysql database. So that's what I did.

Then I tried to install the different files, but some of them gave an error during installation.

So I thought I'l install the shaper file and I unzipped it on my local computer and FTP'ed it to my webspace (directory www.pictjur.nl/joomla_01). There are no files overwritten form the prior joomla installation (from the provider). Even the installation files are removed.

After that I imported the sql file into the database, so that went well.

I thought I would see the example (like the aluma demo), but instead I see the Aluma menu (a part of it) and the text from the joomla community (Dutch language) and for example no pictures at all (and no virtuemart. Yes I did change the coding). And how much I tried I'm not able to change it.

I've looked and the pictures of the demo are in the directory.

So probably I'm doing something wrong but I can't figure out what.

So please can you help me.

Regards,

Marcel

Hello,

I am looking at your site and it is currently running aluma photography. Are you having trouble installing the site shaper? If so, there is a tutorial for this located here:

Hello Mike,

As I told in my previous reaction I've installed the shaper according the manual you pointed to. And as I understand the complete aluma site as a demo should be seen. And as you can see it isn't. There are no pictures, there is no horizontal login, there is no shopping cart etc.
So only a part of the shaper is working ? And the rest is text from joomla community. So it seems to me that things aren't running the way they should be.

For your information:
the database contains information about shopping items
the aluma template is set as default
But I can't see several extensions (like virtuemart etc)

If you like to get a closer look inside my installation, please let me know I'll send you the password (by email)
Until now I'm pretty desperate and don't know how to do it anymore.

Thanks for your help

Regards,

Hello,

Based on the content of your site you have not installed a site shaper, you have installed a default version of Joomla and applied the aluma photography template to it. A site shaper is a complete version of Joomla with our demo data pre-installed. It must be installed into an empty folder and blank database. A site shaper does not contain any of the default Joomla data that is showing on your site. The tutorial I posted above will guide you through this entire install:

Hello,

As I mentioned in my first entry, my provider set up the joomla environment and what I did, I FTP'ed the site shaper into the directory of joomla, without overwriting the existing joomla installation. So I thought I would then have joomla and the site shaper files....? Or am I misthinking?

Hello,

You cannot install a site shaper by simply over-writing a default joomla's installation. The tutorial I posted above will explain all of this as well as the steps you need to do ensure the sample data is installed. The instructions given on the tutorial are the only way to get a site shaper installed.

Ok, that's what I'm trying right now. Deleted the whole directory and doing a nice and clean installation. I'll let you know what the results are.

Hi Mike,

The result is not OK.

After I've uploaded all the (unzipped) files to my webspace and when I'm entering my site www.pictjur.nl this is what I see. No installation screen from joomla. Does that mean installation by siteshaper is impossible and should I go back by installing the joomla version from my hostingprovider? Or do you have another suggestion.

And If I've done that (installing the hostingprovider's joomla) what's the best way to install the package (the demo of aluma)?

Because I already tried this yesterday by installing the remaining files by the install module of Joomla (and not all templates and extensions were working well)

Regards

Hi Mike,

Tried something else, so I came into the installation screen and I think I'm on my way.

Thanks so far for your help
