Been running Aurora Dawn for a while now and recently sequentially upgraded Joomla to 1.7 properly.  The template seems to be working reasonably well.

My question is this. How do we go about updating the template to the latest version from Shape5. I am assuming that there have code updates to the core theme and the modules it uses.

Hello,

There is a 1.7 version of the template in the downloads area. You would need to download that template and install it as your default template.

Great.  But, wouldn't installing the 1.7 template undo the changes I've made to the current template version?

Hello,

If you are already running 1.7 then the downloaded labeled "current" in the aurora dawn downloads area is the most up to date template. There have been no changes to it since it was released for 1.7.

I'm not communicating well.  I don't have the current version, been running this for some time. Thus the migrate to the latest version of the template question.  My thinking is that there is not method to "upgrade" to the current template version with having a major impact to the currently running site.  Is that correct?

Hello,

I'm sorry I still don't understand your question, so I'll try to elaborate. If your site is running 1.7 the only version that will work is the one labeled "current" in the downloads. 1.5 templates will not work with Joomla 1.7. The 1.7 template that we have in the downloads has no updates to it since we launched it, so there is no need to upgrade it. If there are updates needed we will give specifics on how to perform the upgrade without impacting the site.

If you are converting from 1.5 to 1.7 then you will need to install a fresh template unfortunately. The 1.7 template structure is different than 1.5 and will not work with 1.7.

Great. Now we are on the same page.  I need to install the 1.7 version of Aurora and there is not "upgrade" process.

So, I have a ton of work to do "rebuilding" the site; part of the job.

Can I install a second instance the Aurora Template to reconfigure it or would I be better off building on a complete demo site and backup with Akeeba and restore it to the production site?

Hello,

If you're converting from 1.5 to 1.7 I'd recommend installing 1.7 in a sub folder and configure it there. Then when it's ready swap the file or point the domain to the new folder.

Is the template in the downloads marked "Aurora Dawn - Template - Current" a 1.7 or 2.5 template?

Also is there an update on when the 2.5 site shaper will be available?

Thanks as always.

Hello,

Please review our compatibility list for current versions and site shaper versions:

I did and that's why I'm asking...:-)

You have a list that says the 2.5 site shaper is coming soon, and that there is a 1.7 version, but the download isn't marked in any way, so I don't know how to tell.

I've only worked with 1.5 before, so need a little guidance.

Thanks,

Opps...:-) Some how I missed this sentence...

Any download listed as "current" will be compatibile with Joomla 1.7 and 2.5.

Now I get it. Didn't fully understand (until now) how the upgrade from 1.7 to 2.5 worked.

Sorry for not looking closer...:-)

Best
