I'm experiencing issues with how text is presented:
  • Headlines too close to other bodies of copy.
  • Creating new paragraphs (all run together).

I'm guessing this has something to do with the CSS.

I'm frustrated that this kind of basic formatting is not predefined in the theme and working properly. Have I miss something in the theme set-up?

Try disabling "Raw HTML Mode" in the theme options on the "Advanced" tab.  That setting disables the automatic formatting that WP adds to content because it has a tendency to break validation and I like to keep the demos validated if at all possible.
