Hi
I am trying to move from Joomla to WordPress, I installed WP 3.51, got the MaxedMag theme, as my site is Arabic, the wp-admin is confusing me, is there a way to keep the admin panel in English while the site is Arabic.
Also, I see some talking about widgets to have the theme look as it should, but can not find where to get the widgets.
Last, I have the S5 Frontpage, but dont know how to use it, it has to be in a box, and that beats the idea if I understand it right.
Would appreciate any help

Thanx

This post seems to have a few options that may work for you:  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/973216

Widgets can be managed from the "Appearance -> Widgets" area in the admin; you just need to place things wherever you want them to appear.  You should also install Widget Context to allow you to show/hide widgets on specific pages.  Unfortunately, WordPress doesn't currently have that capability built in.

If you are referring to Frontpage Display, what exactly do you mean by "in a box"?  It is a widget, yes, but you can either put it in a position that doesn't have any widget styling by default or you can assign one of the built in widget styles from the theme, giving it whatever appearance you want.

If you want to use the widget, you will need to activate the plugin that creates it, yes.

If you want to make your site look exactly like the demo, then you can always reinstall your site using the site shaper, but doing that will mean losing all existing content.

Thanx again
I am testing this, so no important content is there, but if I use SiteShaper, would it work with Arabic?

If you install from the site shaper, it will put in all the content you need, then you'll need to upgrade everything through the admin.  Once that's done, you should be able to just overwrite the WP files with the Arabic version (just extract the files from the Arabic version and upload through FTP, replacing all files when prompted); overwriting WP with a different version should have no effect on the database content (I think), and will definitely not have any effect on the theme or plugins.

You could also look into just installing a multi-language plugin that will allow the front of the site to be one language and the back to be another, but I haven't been in that situation, so I have no idea what to suggest (Google is your friend).

Did not work, I had to install Arabic WP, rename wpconfig.php, then to install using siteshaper,  then overwriting WP files with Arabic WP files, then using Arabic wpconfig file.

Still have to figure some styling issues.

I wish I could be more help, but I know virtually nothing about installing other languages of WP.  Did it at least get mostly correct?

If you can provide a URL, I can take a look at it with Firebug and see if there are any quick CSS tweaks that can be done to help.  You may find it faster to do that yourself though; I would just be pulling up both the demo and your site and comparing them side by side to see what's different.

Thanx for your offer
Seems CSS is okay, widgets are confusing, By the way, can I delete widgets that I am not using from the admin panel, or at least hide them, or maybe rename them or re sort them?

The other thing confusing me is in the tabs, where it has Latest Vids, LatestPhotos, NewMembers, where can I change this, either the content or the tab names please?

regards

Hani

You can manage widgets from the "Appearance -> Widgets" area in the admin.  If you have the Widget Context plugin installed, you can "hide" the widgets from the entire site rather than removing them if you would prefer to save them for future use.

As for the "Tabs" you are referring to, I'm not even sure what you're talking about as I don't see any tabs on your site with those phrases.

Also - Your site is not currently using the Maxed Mag theme, and this is not the correct board for questions that don't apply to Maxed Mag.

Sorry, my mistake
I was showing a friend how easy to use wordpress and I changed the theme and forgot to switch it back.
Its on now, so please check the tab to the right of the screen.

TIA

The tab titles can be changed in the "Tabshow" widget settings; the tab contents can be changed in the settings for the widgets placed in the locations labeled "Tabshow - Tab ___".
