I have the register and login modules set as you suggested. Now, when I register a user on the frontend, a registration form presents itself with a simple Captcha. When I click to complete the registration process, I get another registration form with an error saying all blanks must be filled. The Captcha at the bottom of this form is an advanced module.

Where do I look for the problem to deactivate the first form presentation?

Thank you.

Hello,

That's because you have the system captcha plugin enabled in the plugin manager. You shouldn't have both the module captcha and the plugin enabled, the module does not use the system plugin so it's looking for that value when the information is submitted.

Now I get this error: Fatal error: Call to a member function checkAnswer() on a non-object in /home/phoeni62/public_html/phoenixii.org/libraries/cms/form/rule/captcha.php on line 52

How do I correct?

Hello,

There is nothing in a template that would cause that. That's referring to a default joomla file. Make sure you don't have captcha enabled anywhere else.
