I would like to change the default icon from an .ICO file to a .PNG.  However, I cannot find the location in the code that reference the file.  I cannot locate the header.php file to make the change.

You can convert your .png file into a web-compatible .ico using the tool at http://favico.com/

The favicon is currently defined in core framework files, but I've just added a note to my ToDo list for future patches to add an option to override the default favicon with an admin setting.
