Can't say anything is good here.. no matter which direction you take it there is a problem.

all https - not working, there is still un-secure content.

Here is how the site should work.
-Browse the site http, read articles etc.
-Go to store checkout it should go to  https
-After checkout go back to http to avoid all the problems

This seems to work how it is setup now, but once in https it won't go back to http.  So if a customer orders something and then wants to browse the articles and clicks on home page link (or any other) they remain in https.  The correct reaction would be to go back to http once checked out.
I thought all the hard work was already done and this is a huge problem if cannot be worked out.

thanks Mike but although this link is helpful it does not really cover what we are talking about enough to solve this.
http://www.gavick.com/documentation/general-questions/how-to-use-ssl-in-a-joomla-site/

I cannot change our ssl for another week so I am hoping that changing the ssl from www to non-www will work.  No other solutions here have worked.

Is the sole reason for the mixed content due to a www. ssl cert instead of non-www?   Just want to confirm.

Thanks.

Hello,

When I changed the settings in the configuration.php file on your site earlier it was loading all the Template files in https:// format as well as the google font files here:

Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://www.shiftev.com/templates/traction/js/s5_flex_menu.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://www.shiftev.com/templates/traction/css/s5_flex_menu.css" type="text/css" />
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://www.shiftev.com/templates/system/css/system.css" type="text/css" />
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://www.shiftev.com/templates/system/css/general.css" type="text/css" />
<link href="https://www.shiftev.com/templates/traction/css/template_default.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="https://www.shiftev.com/templates/traction/css/template.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="https://www.shiftev.com/templates/traction/css/com_content.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="https://www.shiftev.com/templates/traction/css/editor.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="https://www.shiftev.com/templates/traction/css/thirdparty.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

I am not 100% sure if changing the certificate will affect any of the other files or not since from what I can tell your certificate is considering files loaded on the same server as the site insecure.
