Hello, does anyone knows how to insert a search module inside the S5 Search module to make it look as in the demo? I guess that?s how you do it, at the moment i have a blank S5 Search module with the yahoo and google bottons and then I have the traditional search box and search boton on top. Se image attached. Thanks, Inigo

Hi there,

I would also like a heads-up on this.  I got the search module working OK in Sea of Glass template in that the Google and Yahoo searches work great.  But not the internal site search button.  Be nice to add a wikipedia button also.  Any chance of a little 'how to' doc?

I think the first two search tabs are what the Demo instructions refer to in adding the  "Search" and "Search2" fields.  As far as I can tell, I think the third one is automatically a Google search and the 4th is the Yahoo Search (but I am too lazy to check any of the code to change it manually).

I was also initially confused, and kept trying to install the Search to "search" instead of "banner"

- add the Search and Search2 fields
- enable search modules in Search/Search2

Hey Guys,

Sorry this is confusing but yes as dangel mentioned you need to add 2 module positions  "search" and "search2".  for a tutorial on adding these positions please refer to:

http://shape5.com/demo/city_portal/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=44&Itemid=102

The module itself is published to the banner position and then inside the module you have the 2 search positions where you can publish the default joomla search or another components search module.  So for the demo we published the joomla search to the "search" module position.

Hope this clears things up Smiley

So, can the module itself be published anywhere else but the banner position?
When I publish it to the banner on the Joomlart Zinc  template I'm using, it messes up a lot. I tried publishing it to the  "user 4" on my template, which is where the normal "search" module is published in the Zinc template, but it breaks the S5 search module. I tried publishing it in other places too, but it seems it will only work in the banner position...is this correct, or have I missed something?
Thanks
( I AM using the City Portal template for another site, and I LOVE it...I also really like the S5 search module, which is why I wanted/hoped to use it on the other site with the Zinc template)

Thanks for clarification Jonahh.
Phoenixx - I have published to cpanel without any probs in SOG and I assume that means you can stick it anywhere you want in any S5 template.  It's also possible to add further search buttons by a bit of copying and duplicating of the guys original set up files and a bit of internet research into how various sites handle search queries.  Nice job again, S5   Now where's that S5 CB Login update?   Grin

Final point on this:  Any chance of making the 'home' button return to the last page on the home site you were on before heading off on a google or whatever search?  It currently returns you to the home page of the home site which when you are using S5 search on a large site is not ideal.

I installed this template via the site shaper and...

Um... Not thinking clearly (it was late at night...) I deleted the default Joomla! search module; after re-installing it, I went to assign it to the "search" module position and it's not there. Why would those module positions have been effected when I never touched the s5_search module? Shouldn't they still be there since they are part of the shaper?

Okay, so I edited the XML and added the two positions, "search" and "search2." I went into the module manager and published the default search module to the "search" position and reloaded the front-end but it did not show up. So, I edited it to display in "search2" and changed s5_search so that there was text for the button and then reloaded the front-end, but there's still no search module being displayed.

So, just to step back... When I reinstalled the search module; I went into another Joomla! installation and copied the mod_search from both ./modules/ and ./administartor/modules/ and copied them into the installation in question. I then went into PHPMyAdmin and inserted the module into the DB under #_modules and now Joomla! is recognizing the file from within the Joomla!'s admin area.

As I said, I published the module to the "search" position (which I manually added into the XML). The "search" position is now showing up in the admin area... The module is published to it, but the module is not being displayed in the position...? It shows the text that I specified in the s5_search module, but does not display the input field (and, I never edited the s5_search, so of course, Google and Yahoo still show up next to the button for the mod_search).

Any ideas on how I can fix this? It'd take way too long to redo the customization, hence why I was simply re-installing search the way I did...

EDIT:

Make sure to publish search to the appropriate pages; when I reinstalled the search module, by default it is set to display on no pages... So, after changing it to show on all, everything works as it should. Smiley

P.S.
Wait until you guys see how I've implemented this months template; I took it in a totally different direction then you had envisioned, and it looks as slick as could be... I'm ecstatic, to say the least. Smiley

Hi, I tried this using the latest s5 weather download on cityportal, but can only get the buttons to work if all four Search Button Text fields are completed.  If I remove the text for 2, then I start getting the error.  The search does work, and so does yahoo and google, but if I remove text for Search Button Text 2 in admin panel, I get s5_searchvar2 is undefined in the browser.  Any ideas...

Well, I did same, but neither Google nor the Yahoo button is taking over the search field.
If I hoover over the Google and Yahoo buttons, button become embossed, but you can not make them remain embossed/ "active" by clicking.
However if I put the name for button 2, then all 4 buttons including Google and yahoo not only react on hoover, but also do become active. But...

... search with Google or Yahoo does not work. I get this message:

Internal Server Error

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

??

I do not need button 2, so this is my first problem, and I would like to have Google and Yahoo there.

P.S. What mechanism you use to trigger the Google and yahoo search?

This searchvar error was a problem a month or so again but we applied an update do you have a recent download of the module?  Try redownloading and installing and see if this helps.

Niko,

Can you PM me login access to your site so i can take a look?  I'm not really sure whats going on without seeing it first hand.

Thanks,

Hi All... I read the instructions for setting up the S5 Search module for the City Portal Template and understand what needs to be done. The only problem is, I'm not sure what XML file the instructions are referring to? Where is this file located, exactly? I have looked all over in my City Portal folder on my server and can not seem to find the file you are referring to (that has a <positions> area to edit)? I must just be looking in the wrong place or completely missing it? Guidance will be much appreciated. Thanks - R.

Hello,

If you are using the City Portal template you will not need to add the positions but if not then you need to add them to the XML file in whatever template you are using.

For example if you wanted to add this to the eworld 2 template you would look for the following file:

site root/templates/eworld2/templateDetails.xml
