Hello,
I updated our webpage to WP 4.0.1 from WP 3.4.1 and it caused so many problems that I had to revert back to 3.4.1.

I was unable to edit our widgets. I would click on them and they wouldn't open. Also, all of my media on the media edit tab was gone and when I tried to add more media, it wouldn't upload. My webpage was still intact though, except that we had issues with html coding being visible on the bottom of our webpage and on the sidebar to not just me logged in but to the public. All of my plugins were up to date when I went to update to WP 4.0.1. I contacted my host about it and they took a look and said that our Touch of Soul theme is not compatible with the new update. How do I resolve these issues so I can keep our page up to date?

Thank you!
Kelsey

The theme you are having issues with was released before the Vertex framework was developed; unfortunately, pre-framework releases can no longer be updated due to significant changes in how WordPress works.  If you are certain that you want to update your site, I would suggest looking at more recent releases to see if there's something newer that you can be happy updating to.  The first Vertex release was Paradigm Shift, and the first responsive release was Business Response.  I personally recommend not using anything older than Business Response, but that is mainly because the pre-responsive releases that use Vertex will need to be patched with the Vertex Upgrade Patch before they are fully compatible with the latest version of WordPress.
