Author Topic: Mailchimp Signup - Error: API Key can not be blank  (Read 3244 times)

I have the Swapps Template installed with the S5 MailChimp Signup module. I have entered my MailChimp API Key and MailChimp Unique List ID in the module settings. The email sign up was working and captured a few email addresses from the front end of the website. However, now I get an error message when I click "Subscribe" that says "Error: API Key can not be blank" in red font. Do you know how I can fix this error?

Hmm that is quite odd.  Are you sure its not blank in the admin?  Maybe try to resave it?  BTW love your site, looks nice and clean, great job!

Hmm that is quite odd.  Are you sure its not blank in the admin?  Maybe try to resave it?  BTW love your site, looks nice and clean, great job!

Thanks Jonah, and thanks for making a great template! The API key was in there but when I resaved it like you said, it started working again. Not sure what happened but it works for now so thanks for the idea!

Hey Jonah, sorry to say that the same problem has started happening again on the same site. It also is happening on another site I recently built, this time with the template "Blue Group". Just displays "Error: API Key can not be blank"

I just tested and it worked for me.  It might be a session issue too so if you leave the page open for minutes on end and then try to submit it may cause this issue.  Are you leaving the page open for a while and then submitting an email address?

I just tested and it worked for me.  It might be a session issue too so if you leave the page open for minutes on end and then try to submit it may cause this issue.  Are you leaving the page open for a while and then submitting an email address?

Thanks! Unfortunately the problem is happening as soon as I load the page. And I just checked it on a different computer using a different browser and got the same thing.

I am using Jotcache and the template CSS/Javascript cache.  Could caching the page be interfering? Thanks again for your time.

Caching maybe but I think it may be related to your session. The module stores values in a php session variable. So if your browser page is left open too long or you clear your browser cache and try to submit without refreshing the page this could cause this problem.

If you load the page and try to submit right away does it work?

Hi there,

I've also been facing this issue.

It's very hard to pinpoint exactly what's causing it.

I've found that by increasing my session time the "API Key can not be blank" problem is still intermittent.

I've tried a few other modules (including paid ones which didn't even work) so prefer yours.

Thinking it's a caching issue have tried an auto cache cleaner running at a shorter frequency than the session time but still problems. Even without the cache(s) on the issue still arises.

Things do appear to settle down after flushing the cache most of the time but not in every case.

I've looked at the page source when it's working and when it's not - They're identical.

It appears that shecmt is getting around the issue but redirecting to the mailchimp page to complete the sign up process.

I'd prefer to keep them at my site. If anyone finds a fix or can provide any insight that may remedy the issue (which is evidently only occurring with a small number of users) please let us know.

Does it ever not work when you fresh the page and try it immediately after the page finishes loading?

Hi jonahh! I'm having the same issue -  Error: API key can not be blank. I've tried in several browsers. It happens on a fresh page load. Sometimes I can see an Adding email address... message before the error text is presented. Site is new.agrismartinc.com. What do you recommend? Thank you! - Trey
