Hi,

I tried downloading the Emusica template and it looked nothing like the demo. I was then told that I needed to download the Site Shaper.zip to make it look like the demo. I just tried downloading the site shaper and in WP and it's giving me the following error message:

***The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.
Theme install failed. ****

I don't know what I'm doing wrong and the tutorial only shows how to do the file transfer via FTP (which I'm not using).

Please help! This is becoming a lot harder than expected.

Thanks
Evelyn

From the Wordpress FAQ:

A Site Shaper is a full WordPress installation with sample data, not something you can install through the admin

There are two different methods for installing the Shaper, easy steps for both are on the Wordpress FAQ, and both require FTP access.

If you are concerned about the standard theme install not looking like the demo, you don't need to be; it is fully functional - you just need to add content.  The majority of the theme structure is driven by widget positions, and to properly utilize them you'll want to use something like Widget Context to show or hide widgets on specific areas of your site.

Thank you for your response Tristan. I went ahead and did the FTP and had to download a WP-File Manager plugin to transfer/read my files in WordPress...this is where I'm stuck. This is a lot harder than meets the eye and the video tutorial is really outdated and not helpful (in my opinion). Any more direction you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

WP File Manager is not an FTP client.  You need something like FileZilla.

I definitely agree that the video tutorial is a little outdated; the tutorials on the WordPress FAQ that I mentioned in my last response are definitely up to date.

The "auto-installer" one is probably what you'll need to use if you already have WP set up.

Keep in mind that using the Shaper will erase all existing site content, so it should only be used on a site that doesn't have content.

Even after reading the Wordpress FAQ that you posted, I'm still getting stuck. I can't keep wasting time on this, it's been 3 weeks since I started working on this project. There seems to be information missing after step 4 of the Fresh Install-Manual Database Creation. I already created a database in Filezilla but can't seem to figure out how to upload the files in WordPress. I tried downloading the "wp-file manager" plugin in Wordpress and I can't find my database files anywhere. So basically I need clarification on steps 5 & 6 of the Fresh Install- Manual Database Creation. I'm using Powweb.com as my host and they have a file manager but again, I don't know how to export the files from there to my WordPress.

Do you know of anyone that would be willing to download the site shaper for me? I'm willing to pay for the services. Thank you!

Filezilla has nothing to do with database creation, and there shouldn't be any database files for you to "find".  Filezilla is how you upload the files to your site, and creating the database is something you would need to do through the cpanel your host provides.

Since you already have a site created, you should probably be using the auto-installer version of the tutorial anyway though, beginning with step 3.

There is nothing missing from the tutorial, but it does seem that you're getting some of the steps mixed up; I'm not sure how I can make it any more clear than I already have.  You don't want to use WP-Filemanager or your host's file manager to upload the shaper files - that is likely to corrupt the files and break things; the files need to be uploaded using FTP in a program like FileZilla.  Your host may have to create an FTP account for you that points at your WP directory if you can't figure out how to do it yourself; they may even be willing to extract the zip to the correct folder for you.  If they do, all you will need to do is activate the "Sample Data Injector" plugin that will be added by the shaper, and that will reset your site to match the demo.

Finally I was able to figure out how to download the SiteShaper! using a XAMPP/local host. It looks exactly like the demo, minus the pictures.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to edit content. All I see is this long list of widgets under appearance/customize/widgets in WordPress.
Custom 1
Custom 2
Bottom Menu
Logo
Search
Top Row 1.1
Top Row 1.2

and there is well over 80 of them...Is this what I'm supposed to be editing? I've tried adding "THIS IS A TEST" on some of them to see their position and I can't seem to find them.  Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Using the "?tp=2" URL argument, you can see where each widget area is located on the page (http://shape5.com/demo/wp/emusica/?tp=2).

Widget Context is used to make it so that a lot of the widgets are only shown/hidden on specific pages or areas of the site.

While Shape 5 themes will look fine without widgets, they are designed to have the majority of the content controlled by widget placement.  This allows for a much broader range of layout options, because you can just show or hide as many or as few widgets as you want on any specific page, and the location of the visible ones will re-shape the page layout.

Thanks! This answers a lot of my questions. I'm sure I'll have more questions as far as picture placement goes...but I'll definitely ask you if I get stuck somewhere else. Thanks for all your help.

Hi Tristan,

So I've been trying to add content and some of these widgets are grayed out. So It's not something I can add content to or show on the page. One of these grayed out widgets is the logo on top...the one that says "Emusica" on the demo from your page. I'm trying to add my logo but I cant.

I'm also trying to add pictures to the S5 Image Scroll at the bottom and can't seem to find where I can add them.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Are you using the theme customizer?  If you are, that's probably the problem.  You need to use the Appearance->Widgets page to manage the widgets for the theme; there are too many sidebar positions for the customizer to function correctly.

No, I'm in Appearance> Widgets...and still see all these grayed out widgets on the right hand side of my screen. Some you can add content to...some you can't.

I'm not sure what you mean by "grayed out".  You should be able to expand any of the widgets and edit the content as needed, as well as remove them or add any new ones.
